PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
This role provides clear specialism and expertise in the development of training materials within operational training. With a learning development and/or learning material production background, this role will work alongside Operational colleagues to provide Operations Training with engaging and creative learning across a variety of roles. Acting as a champion to the rest of the team and business on multimedia production, this role could, where applicable, performance manage and lead a team of Learning Developers.
Accountabilities
- Leadership
- Champion, lead and demonstrate specialist developments to ensure a focal point for bespoke and specialist development.
- Provide input on issues relating to the use of media and technology in technical training and provide specialist development knowledge on practical creation of digital media.
- Contribute, manage and develop the development strategy streams to ensure the strategy aligns to emerging and developing technology trends and best practice.
- Coach, mentor and improve developer team members to ensure team members are supported and have a clear expert to receive direction on issues/problems faced in developments.
- Build learning solutions
- Apply critical thinking to analyse a design problem and develop the best solution.
- Create, Develop, and review learning developments to ensure products meet requirements.
- Manage, Action, collaborate on and control a brief from the business/learning designer team to design the learning experience and work with wider creative specialists, (such as app developers, video producers, voice-over artists, graphics artists and animators) to produce materials.
- Use, maintain currency in, and develop with the latest authoring tools, technologies, and methodologies for development to ensure materials are produced.
- Quality Assure
- Conduct and verify Quality Assurance of materials produced to ensure materials meet design standards, internal and external acceptance criteria.
- Impact Assess
- Estimate, supply and review development time to iterate, update and release developments to users to agreed targets.
- Release solutions
- Catalogue, host and release learning materials to ensure materials are accessible and can be evaluated against performance.
- Setup and process performance/reporting details and ensure data is shared.
- Establish, set up and confirm maintenance and change procedures to ensure materials can be updated, reusable elements are extracted, and products are reviewed before they are out of life/unserviceable and archive out-of-life products.
- Train the trainer
- Deliver, create and brief trainers/delivery personnel to ensure products can be used and accessed correctly.
QUALIFICATIONS, PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Design based degree or equivalent and qualifications in the multimedia learning environment, or demonstrable equivalent experience, knowledge and skills for enhanced multimedia-based training are desirable.
- Prior line management experience, or demonstrable leadership skills and ability to motivate and inspire individuals.
- Significant proven experience in client-facing media development with varied and wide experience in the production of eLearning, web development, graphic design, and Video materials.
- Significant experience in the application of a development cycle and the improvement of it.
- Strong knowledge and ability with digital creation software. Ideally Adobe creative suite (photoshop, illustrator, aftereffects) and rapid authoring tools Captive and Articulate.
- Clear and demonstrable application and understanding of User design, User interface and User experience principles and theory.
- Passionate, persuasive, and confident with the ability to influence people at all levels within NATS, tailoring style to audience. Able to talk authoritatively, credibly and with conviction.
- Strong interpersonal skills, comfortable building relationships at all levels and encourages open and honest debate with key stakeholders even on difficult issues.
- Significant experience applying and working with a brand identity.
- Be able to work independently or with minimal management input whilst maintaining timescale, delivering with the required quality and on budget.
- High attention to detail with an ability to learn new software and tools.
- Have a creative mindset and be current in design and development industry knowledge, demonstrated by a personal portfolio which shows varied design and development projects.
- The ability to translate high level requirements into creative and effective designs.
- Ability to prioritise and organise the conflicting demands of multiple tasks to achieve efficiency, delegating where needed and managing others.
- Analytical capability, with the ability to both follow and develop methodical processes to implement measured change is essential.
- An ability to understand and synthesize complex subject matter into effective training material and an ability to quickly develop a good knowledge of complex and specialist subject matter.
- Significant understanding in the application of accessibility standards and designing with constraints.
- Strong design and development skills are essential along with a focussed attention to detail and an ability to analyse, organise and convey complex ideas through design.
- Highly motivated self-starter with the capacity to work effectively on their own or as part of a larger team.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills with the ability to establish effective working relationships with colleagues at all levels and experience.
- Proven ability to drive things forward and motivate fellow team members.
- Experience to work alone and use own initiative, independently and without supervision.
- Knowledge of Air Traffic Management is desirable but not essential.
- Ability to achieve CIPD level 3 or equivalent in Learning and Development.
- Proven ability and experience with Learning Management/Digital release of products is desirable. Namely Cornerstone on Demand.
- Effective needs analysis, evaluation skills and project management capabilities are desirable.
- Specialist development experience is desirable (web development, video production, eLearning).
A positive approach to substituting for the Operations Head of Learning Development when required, maintaining communication with Head of Learning and Design at all times.
