Purpose Of The Role
The Technology & Tooling focus within the Projects & Programmes Capability Function is a key strategic enabler for the organisational maturity of the Project Profession. It provides strategic direction for the use of data and tooling and supports this environment by providing centralised and standardised tooling around processes and procedures, high quality reporting, data and information environments, continual improvement (including emerging technologies such as AI) and support and training to users.
The role of the Technology & Tooling Specialist will support the Principal Capability Manager for Technology & Tooling within this environment and any associated business as defined by the Head of Capability. The role will lead/support the creation and management of data, information, business solutions using the Microsoft Power Platform and accompanying M365 suite of tools (and others as required) to provide users and business areas with accurate, consistent, and timely information needed to deliver against their business commitments.
This role will work closely with colleagues across the Capability Function and other key stakeholders within Projects And Programmes as well as the wider business to support adoption of best practice standards and methods, particularly those relating to data, information, our application technologies, knowledge management and learning. The role will support the delivery of data and tools to our Portfolio, Programmes & Projects, and collaborate with other teams and change initiatives across the business; ensuring that data, technology and tooling considerations are effectively built into and adopted by our delivery practices, whilst contributing to process improvement, and supporting the overall success of the portfolio.
Accountabilities
The Technology & Tooling Specialist drives and embeds Technology, Tooling and data practices within programmes and projects by:
- Building new and supporting existing Microsoft Power Platform/M365/other solutions
- Seeking out, evaluating, and addressing services or tasks that would benefit from improved process management in the areas of data/information management or automation.
- Responsible for understanding requirements and transforming the business use cases into solutions for end users
- Maintain/develop data processes (including backups) and develop our Data maturity and quality. Build resilience and capability.
- Maintain/develop a cohesive reporting environment, with the efficient use of data and how business intelligence converts it to meaningful information.
- Ensure that tooling, reporting, and data solutions are built and managed in line with corporate standards and best practice to minimise the impact of deployment and configuration tasks.
- Influence all levels of the business from Director down. Challenge on requirements and business need.
- Build and maintain a network of Information Points of Contact to champion and implement information management standards.
Qualifications, Professional Knowledge and Skills
- Degree qualified, or suitably experienced with cloud-based software, specifically Microsoft 365 Teams, PowerApps, Power Automate, SharePoint and Power BI
- Understanding of the Software Development lifecycle
- Ability to break down complex problems into simple solutions
- Strong analytical skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Strong organisational skills with a logical and structured approach to work.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with confidence & credibility to persuade and influence staff at all levels.
- Confident to challenge and be challenged.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to influence at all levels.
- A self-starter with energy and organisational skills to develop and manage multiple tasks with various stakeholders and changing agendas.
- Good networking skills, establishing key contacts around the organisation, valuing them, and using them effectively.
- Knowledge/understanding of the project and programme management environment as context for the role.
- Demonstrate a proactive approach to supporting appropriate stakeholders across Technical Services and beyond. Experienced with a wide variety of reporting and communication methods.
