Purpose of the Role:
NATS is modernising UK airspace in line with the UK government’s priorities to improve efficiency, increase capacity and reduce the environmental impact for the skies of the future. The Operations Implementation Expert is a key role within NATS Airspace Development team, having responsibility for supporting Airspace Development in accordance with NATS business objectives.
Other duties include:
- Provide airspace expert knowledge and guidance to support the development, delivery and operational sustainment of future Airspace including operational procedures.
- Ensure end user engagement during all stages of development in order to adequately define requirements, support development activities, manage expectations through effective channels of communication, and support operational needs.
- Support project development activities on behalf of Airspace Development, acting as the unit air traffic control focal point / air traffic control Contract Work Package Manager, on development tasks at a unit or cross unit level.
- Organise people and activities effectively and deliver/manage delivery of outcomes as detailed in individual project work packages.
- Liaise effectively with other divisions, business areas, departments and operational units to ensure that change and air traffic management developments are in service of both NATS and customer requirements.
- Represent Airspace Development liaising with operational staff where appropriate, to allow correct derivation of air traffic control user feedback and requirements and ensuring that these requirements are implemented.
- Assist in the development of associated Methods of Operations and procedures to support airspace changes, including production of safety and project related documentation.
- Assess training needs for operational staff prior to the introduction of airspace change. Use your expertise to design and deliver effective briefings, familiarisation, or assist training activities.
- Provide Airspace expertise to NATS safety activities, taking part in safety activities, providing safety analysis relating airspace change and providing safety rationale and mitigation on identified potential risks.
Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A comprehensive understanding of the current en-route air traffic control operation and airspace change process is essential in this role.
- Ability to contribute effectively and confidently in technical forums using influencing skills where necessary to achieve desired outcomes.
- Able to represent all levels of the development team at technical and team briefings.
- Effective verbal, written and presentational communication with a wide-ranging audience, both internally and externally, able to tailor the information according to the target audience.
- Able to offer practical solutions to problems and to prioritise issues, make balanced decisions based upon safety, service delivery and customer requirements.
- Agile and able to react with flexibility to changes in business direction.
- A good team player, the post holder will be able to take the lead when required, work autonomously, and maintain high standards while managing priorities and deadlines effectively.
