PURPOSE OF THE JOB: The role is to act as an installation and hardware technician carrying out planning and implementation of installations for projects and changes required to existing installations. Ensuring that installations meet the requirements of the NATS Installation Manual and statutory requirements. This post is based at NATS Whiteley with travel to other NATS sites, in addition some role specific training may take place at other NATS sites.

Undertake Incident and Problem Management relating to installations and hardware, escalation procedures are followed by Installation teams. Perform planned and corrective maintenance in support of in-service equipment, diagnosing and resolving hardware issues, using agreed procedures resulting in timely restoration of service resilience. Assist with the installation activities where required in support of project delivery. This role is liable for out of hours work.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Diagnosing and resolving Hardware issues, using agreed procedures and tools resulting in restoration of service resilience.
  • Assisting investigations (e.g., Operational Equipment room servers and Workstations), following ORA's, helping to implement CR's or hardware upgrades/replacement and loading of configuration/software.
  • Achieving and maintaining specific operational competencies where and as required.
  • Ensuring hardware related service configuration processes and tools are applied so that service configuration records remain accurate, complete, and current.
  • Contributing to effective application of hardware related risk management processes to ensure that service levels are met, and residual risks are recorded and communicated.
  • Complete routine maintenance as directed on a wide range of IT and ATM systems.
  • Providing support to the formal technical training team and assist in system training development.
  • Checking the configuration/software of devices against a baseline, and if incorrect update as appropriate.
  • Provide support to other projects under an agreed work package to ensure delivery against timescales and quality.

AUTONOMY: Manages and plans assigned work to meet their responsibilities and the assigned objectives. Provide timely reporting to work-package leads and line management, highlighting issues, risks, successes and general progress updates.

JOB SCOPE: The role holder provides support for installation and hardware implementation to meet requirements provided by NATS projects and assist in operational maintenance, fault finding and fault rectification. The role holder will ensure that the operational and stakeholder requirements are met by creating and developing the documentation as required. The role holder will assist in maintaining site installation plans and databases.

EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATION & SKILLS: The post holder is expected to hold, as a minimum, a Higher National Certificate in an Engineering or Information Technology related discipline. Where the expected level of qualification is not held, a relevant lower-level engineering qualification, such as an Apprenticeship, coupled with demonstrable engineering experience in a relevant field, is acceptable. Has a demonstrable commitment to continuous professional development, both technical and personal. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to work calmly, systematically, and analytically when supporting others in resolving service incidents in a safety-related context. Performs a range of work activities in varied environments and may contribute to routine issue resolution. Proven ability to work in a team. Strong interpersonal skills that enable proactive interaction with customers, suppliers, and colleagues.
