Overall Purpose
We are seeking a highly skilled Intern for a 6-month position on our London-based Rates Trading desk. This role focuses on developing and optimizing trading tools and applications using Python and spreadsheet technologies to enhance trading strategies and operations for fixed income products such as Interest Rate Swaps, Inflation Swaps, and Bonds.
Main Responsibilities
- Collaborate with traders to design and implement Python-based applications that support trading efficiency for fixed income products, including Interest Rate Swaps, Inflation Swaps, and Bonds.
- Develop risk management tools and pricing models tailored to fixed income instruments.
- Utilize spreadsheet technologies and potentially using frameworks like Python, Dash, Streamlit, as well as Excel using PYXLL and VBA, and other technologies to create user-friendly applications for traders on the desk, enhancing their ability to analyze and visualize market data for risk and pricing tools and analysis.
- Automate repetitive tasks and reporting processes to improve operational efficiency related to fixed income trading.
- Troubleshoot and optimize existing trading tools and systems to ensure they meet the needs of the trading desk.
- Work independently and take the initiative in project development while closely adhering to trading desk priorities and trading strategies.
Profile and Required Skills
- Strong programming skills in Python; experience in developing financial applications is a plus.
- Proficiency in spreadsheet technologies, especially for building complex models and tools.
- Solid mathematical and analytical skills, with an understanding of fixed income markets and financial concepts preferred.
- Excellent communication skills; fluency in English required, with additional languages as a bonus.
- Strong problem-solving capabilities and a proactive approach to learning and adapting.
- Previous internships or academic projects that involved coding and analytical work in finance, specifically within fixed income or trading environments.
