We are looking for talented Principal Auditors to join our evolving Internal Audit team at an exciting time of development. In this role, you will deliver high‑impact audit work across a diverse range of business areas, helping to ensure Nationwide continues to operate safely, sustainably, and in the best interests of our customers.

You will be responsible for executing audits end‑to‑end, applying a risk‑based approach to identify key issues, provide meaningful insights, and offer constructive challenge where it matters most. By working closely with stakeholders, you will build trusted relationships and communicate your findings clearly, supporting better decision‑making and driving real, lasting improvements.

What you’ll be doing

  • Plan and deliver audit assignments, ensuring work is completed to a high standard and in line with methodology.
  • Engage with stakeholders throughout the audit lifecycle, maintaining a no‑surprises approach while identifying risks, testing controls, and producing clear, impactful outputs.
  • Track and validate issues, support continuous improvement, and contribute to a collaborative and high‑performing Internal Audit team.

About you

  • Proven experience in internal or external audit, or comparable risk management roles, ideally within financial services or a relevant professional qualification e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIA, or CISA.
  • Demonstrable experience of planning and delivering audit work, including testing controls and identifying risks.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate findings clearly and influence outcomes.
  • Ability to analyse complex information and use data insights to identify themes, trends, and issues.
  • Experience of producing high‑quality audit documentation and reports to professional standards.
  • Strong organisational and time‑management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.

The working hours (per week) for this role can be between 28 and 35 hours.

We offer hybrid working wherever possible. You can work from home or the office with generous access to either; at least two days per week (or 40% for part‑time) will be spent at either our London or Swindon office. If you are aligned to our Glasgow hub, there will be a need to regularly connect and collaborate with colleagues, anticipated to be weekly.
