Payment Strategy Specialist in Swindon

Payment Strategy Specialist in Swindon

Swindon Full-Time No working from home possible
Nationwide
Description

As part of the Payments Strategy & Insight team, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of Payments by turning data, market intelligence and industry knowledge into clear, practical strategic direction. You’ll use curiosity, sound judgement and a strong understanding of the Society Blueprint to identify what matters most, connecting performance insight with customer needs, regulatory change, technology developments and wider market trends.

You’ll be responsible for developing high-quality insight that helps Payments and senior stakeholders make informed decisions. This includes supporting the development and refresh of the Payments Strategy, identifying opportunities and risks, and translating complex information into clear recommendations that can be acted on. You’ll look across internal performance, external developments and emerging themes to build a rounded view of where Payments is today, where it needs to go next and what choices will help deliver better outcomes for members and the Society.

A core part of the role will be creating clear, engaging outputs that bring insight to life. You’ll produce reporting, papers, presentations and executive-ready materials that explain performance, highlight priorities and set out recommended actions for senior leadership, Executive and Board-level audiences. Your work will need to be accurate, well-structured and easy to understand, helping colleagues move quickly from analysis to decision-making.

You’ll also challenge how Payments uses data, reporting and insight, looking for ways to make outputs sharper, more consistent and more impactful. Using tools such as Power BI, Excel and PowerPoint, you’ll analyse and visualise information in a way that supports better conversations and stronger strategic choices. Alongside this, you’ll build effective relationships across Payments and the wider organisation, gathering input, testing assumptions and sharing insight in a way that builds confidence and alignment.

Success in this role will come from combining analytical rigour with strong communication and delivery discipline. You’ll be expected to manage assigned work to a high standard, meet agreed deadlines and take ownership of outputs from initial thinking through to final delivery. Above all, you’ll help turn insight into action, supporting Payments to anticipate change, make better decisions and deliver outcomes that are aligned to the Society’s priorities.

We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.
This is a 12-month secondment opportunity.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing

If you enjoy understanding how things work and using information to solve problems this role is for you.

No two days are the same. One day you could be exploring payments performance, market trends or regulatory developments; the next, shaping insight into a compelling story for senior leaders. You’ll collaborate with colleagues across Payments and the wider organisation, asking the right questions, connecting the dots and helping turn complex information into clear recommendations. It’s a role where curiosity, judgement and strong communication come together to influence decisions, support better customer outcomes and help shape the future of Payments.

About you

  • Experience in Payments, strategy, insight, analytics, performance reporting or a comparable role, with evidence of supporting business decisions through analysis.

  • Ability to interpret complex data and information from multiple sources, identify trends, risks and opportunities, and translate them into clear business insight.

  • Experience producing performance reporting, papers or presentations that summarise findings, explain implications and recommend actions.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create concise, executive-ready PowerPoint presentations and written reports.

  • Confident stakeholder engagement skills, with experience gathering input, testing assumptions and presenting findings to varied audiences.

  • Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and deliver accurate, high-quality work.

  • Practical experience using Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, with the ability to use reporting or visualisation tools such as Power BI to support insight generation.

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind

  • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand

  • Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development

  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
