We are looking for a highly experienced Senior economic crime (fraud & fincrime) technology analyst to join the CIO team and play a pivotal role in using technology to strengthen our technology solutions. Working at the intersection of Technology and data, the role will develop a deep understanding of fraud/fincrime data, and underlying technology capabilities. The successful candidate will work closely with analytics to understand how data is currently used to identify and manage fraud, then translate those insights into opportunities where technology, data engineering, automation and advanced analytics can deliver better outcomes. This is not a traditional reporting or MI analyst position. It is a senior technology role requiring strong domain knowledge and deep data expertise. The role holder will be expected to operate with significant independence and engage senior technology and business and use data to identify where technology intervention could help business.
At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected. For this role, you'll be based at your nearest regional office or hub. We value time spent together to connect with colleagues for collaboration so there will be a regular requirement to attend our Swindon site approximately once per month. If you are based at an office location, you'll be expected to meet our hybrid working requirement of at least two days a week, or 40% of your working time if part-time, in the office.
If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works. Nationwide is committed to the redeployment of our employees impacted by change, as such applications for redeployment candidates will be prioritised in this recruitment process. If you’re a colleague on long-term absence (for example, on parental leave) or a temporary worker, please use your personal email address to submit an application.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with Fraud Analytics, Fraud Operations and technology teams to develop a detailed understanding of data and customer journeys and translate complex analytical findings into clear technology problems and opportunities.
- Identify where additional data, improved data quality, real-time data, automation, analytics or new technology capabilities could improve business outcomes.
- Use your influence on technical decisions using evidence from data.
About you
This is a senior specialist individual-contributor role. The successful candidate will be comfortable operating independently. You will be someone who:
- Is an independent thinker and problem solver, able to identify opportunities rather than waiting for predefined requirements.
- Has deep expertise in data analysis and is comfortable interrogating complex, high-volume datasets.
- Has strong knowledge of fraud and financial crime, covering multiple fraud types and customer journeys.
- Has hands-on capability in SQL, Python & Databricks.
- Should move comfortably between detailed data investigation and strategic technology conversations.
- Should challenge both technology and business stakeholders constructively.
- Essential to influence senior stakeholders without relying on positional authority whilst translating data insights into technology requirements and solutions.
