Swindon Full-Time No working from home possible

Description

Join the Customer Services Microservices (CSM) Platform team within the Customer Servicing Shared Engineering Services team. The team provides and operates the core platform capabilities that enable engineering teams across Customer Servicing to build, deploy and run customer-critical services securely, reliably and at scale.

As an Engineer, you will play a hands-on role in developing, delivering and supporting secure cloud-native platform solutions. Working with Kubernetes, OpenShift, enterprise platform services and Infrastructure as Code, you will build resilient environments, automate operational processes, and ensure services meet security, availability and performance requirements. You will contribute to technical designs, support testing and release activities, integrate platform capabilities with enterprise monitoring solutions, and help resolve complex technical challenges.

This role requires a collaborative engineer who takes ownership of outcomes, communicates effectively with stakeholders, enjoys solving problems, and actively shares knowledge with colleagues. You will work closely with engineers, architects and product teams across Customer Servicing, helping to drive continuous improvement while supporting the adoption of modern engineering practices and platform capabilities.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon or London office. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.

Whilst these locations are where we are primarily looking to fill the role, if you’re an internal applicant based in a different location we would welcome your application and if successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this could work for this specific role. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.

You will play an active role in knowledge sharing, continuous learning, and fostering a collaborative engineering culture focused on innovation, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.

About you

  • Experience in administering and supporting Red Hat OpenShift and enterprise platform services, with a proven track record of implementing secure solutions and embedding security best practices throughout the platform lifecycle
  • Proficiency in Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles, with experience automating, provisioning, and managing cloud infrastructure and platform components at scale
  • Experience producing technical designs and delivering platform solutions, including integration with enterprise monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability tooling to ensure operational excellence
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience supporting testing activities, release processes, vulnerability remediation, and the resolution of complex technical incidents in live environments
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across engineering teams, architects, stakeholders, and delivery partners
  • Ability to actively share knowledge, embrace continuous learning, and contribute to a culture of collective ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind

  • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand

  • Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development

  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes
