Business Banking is one of the fastest‑growing and most energised parts of our organisation and we’re looking for a team‑focused, commercially minded Governance and Controls Assistant to join our Commercial Operations Team. This role places you in the Commercial Operations Governance and Controls Team, giving you the opportunity to deliver first class service to our customers, through a robust governance and controls environment, supporting the growth of our Social Housing lending portfolio. You will be part of a team responsible for overseeing Economic Crime activity, including monitoring, and assessing control effectiveness across the Commercial Team. You will play a key role in maintaining oversight of control activity to ensure compliance with regulatory and internal standards, whilst proactively identifying and mitigating emerging risks.

The team works in close partnership with Financial Controls, Credit Risk and our Business Banking Risk Partners to ensure a coordinated and consistent approach to risk management, strengthening the overall Commercial control environment and supporting informed decision making across the business.

Responsibilities:

  • On a day-to-day basis, you will be an integral part of the Commercial Operations Team.
  • You’ll be accountable for providing support to the Governance and Controls Team, ensuring procedures, controls and service standards are followed, as well as contributing to process improvements and strategic initiatives.
  • You’ll be responsible for key tasks such as financial reconciliation, arrears management, production, and circulation of exception reports as well as regulatory compliance, ensuring these activities run efficiently and effectively.
  • You will collaborate with the Governance and Controls, and wider Commercial Team, playing an active role in Economic Crime compliance, undertaking control checks across a broad range of reports, helping to ensure a strong and compliant Commercial controls environment.

About you:

  • Able to gather, analyse and articulate data, with a keen eye for detail, delivering work accurately and concisely.
  • Organised and able to prioritise work effectively with an ability to learn quickly.
  • Able to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and MS Teams.
  • Able to manage and deliver work through other platforms such as Power BI and SQL.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Able to assimilate information from different sources.
