The Websites Team are responsible for Nationwide.co.uk, Nationwide for Intermediaries, optimising the content of The Mortgage Works and the product pages in the internet bank and the app. You will be playing a pivotal role in ensuring customers receive a simply brilliant experience every time they interact with us online.
For our websites to perform, the content needs to work hard to attract customers using modern search optimisation strategies, and also ensure customers are able to understand and make decisions on what can be complex financial propositions. You will be leading the content definition, creation and optimisation for our core products. Your role is critical to ensuring the purpose of each page in a customer journey is clear, that our content hierarchy aids comprehension, and that we are applying the most effective content strategies at the right moments (e.g. imagery, copy or video etc).
You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team working alongside Product Designers, Insight Analysts, Editors and Product Owners. It is the team's mission to collaborate to ensure customer interactions are positive and we help customers achieve their financial goals.

For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon, London or Bournemouth office. Wherever you're based you'll need to attend the Websites Team Day every two months, which is typically hosted in Swindon.

What you'll be doing:
You will write compelling and easy to understand content for a diverse digital audience whilst mentoring and coaching team members on content design. By making sure that our content is written in an inclusive way, you will ensure it meets our accessibility and inclusion standards. Alongside this you will be responsible for ensuring that our content has a clear purpose, balances our regulatory requirements and provides the customer the information that they need to make informed choices and decisions.
You will need to take a strategic approach to content design – for example defining ways of working (workflows, governance, patterns and principles), leading the implementation of content strategies, advocating for design thinking and engaging stakeholders effectively.
By working with other Nationwide brand and product teams across the society you will work to ensure that our journey content is consistent and aligns to our tone of voice whilst working closely with Product Designers and UX researchers to bring your content execution to life. Both content and design will need to collaborate to make our digital experience best in class.
Working with our performance analyst and product owners, you will be identifying, through insight, customer pain points and opportunities for improvement in the digital experience that we serve our customers.
You will be required to conduct SEO/AEO analysis to ensure that the content priorities reflect customer needs whilst working to input ideas for A/B tests, as well as suggestions for areas of personalisation. Using your experience of working with analytics and content metrics such as readability, qualitative research and digital analytics you will be able to solve problems pragmatically.
About you:
As a minimum you will have:
- Excellent writing skills, creating well-crafted content in the right tone of voice to the right audience
- Experience and evidence of designing content to drive SEO outcomes, including using SEO tools to drive content strategy
- Demonstrable experience of designing and testing content experiences as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced agile environment
- Proven experience of designing for inclusivity and accessibility and vulnerability
- Experience of working in a test and learn environment
- Proven experience in delivering customer centric solutions that balance customer need, and commercial success
- Strong influencing skills, across all levels of management within a complex matrix organisation
- Experience of researching, designing and testing content experiences at a senior or lead level as part of multidisciplinary teams in fast-paced agile environments
