Performance Test Engineer in London

At Nationwide, it’s key that we protect our backend systems from potential performance, resilience and scalability challenges due to the rapidly increasing demand placed on them from front end systems (APIs) and our members 24hr banking behaviours, including regulatory initiatives such as Open Banking. We’ve achieved this through a new enterprise middleware known internally as ‘The Speed Layer’. The Speed Layer is an elastically scalable, event driven middleware based on modern technologies such as Kafka and Mongo Db. We need high-performing individuals to accelerate our test engineering transformation, embedding test solutions which ensure the Society has built the right products and services to the right quality, evidencing the change delivers the agreed outcomes.

We value time spent together to connect with colleagues for collaboration so there will be a regular requirement to attend our Swindon site approximately once a quarter. If you are based at an office location, you'll be expected to meet our hybrid working requirement of at least two days a week, or 40% of your working time if part-time, in the office. If you’re based at our Glasgow office, this will apply from 1 April 2027 and ahead of that there will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration events.

Responsibilities

• Joining the Test Engineering Centre of Excellence and reporting to an Engineering Manager, you will play a key role within the Middleware development squad, becoming involved in all aspects of performance testing throughout the Software Development Lifecycle.
• You will be responsible for the creation and delivery of test outcomes, implementing high-quality testing solutions that align with established standards, frameworks and proven engineering practices.
• Working closely with your development team, you will champion test automation best practices and contribute to the successful delivery of both complex strategic IT initiatives and smaller-scale enhancements.
• You will also provide technical leadership and expert guidance, enabling informed decisions to be made with confidence and pace while ensuring solutions meet the highest standards of quality, performance and reliability.

About you

As a minimum requirement, you’ll have:

• Experience in NFT - E2E Performance testing process
• Working knowledge in Server side & Client side performance testing tools
• Testing experience of Middleware/Microservices/API platforms
• Expertise in performance testing tools, JMeter and LoadRunner/VuGen scripting
• Ability to code profiling tools
• Knowledge in application/Infra monitoring tools
• Experience in Performance test analysis and reporting experience in Agile/Jira/Confluence
