Lead Risk Partner in Glasgow

Lead Risk Partner in Glasgow

Glasgow Full-Time No working from home possible
N
Description

We’re looking for an experienced Risk Partner to join our Finance Risk & Controls team and make a visible impact across Finance.

Finance Risk & Controls helps Finance manage risk confidently, strengthen governance and maintain a robust control environment. We work closely with Finance teams, senior stakeholders, second line risk, internal audit and wider business areas to make sure risk, control, governance and reporting requirements are clear, embedded and delivered well.

As Lead Risk Partner, you’ll set the pace for strong risk management across Finance. You’ll provide expert risk, control and governance advice, represent the team in senior forums, and turn complex information into clear, practical insight that supports better decisions.

You’ll also lead on governance and reporting, making sure risk and control matters are reported accurately, consistently and with impact. This includes producing sharp senior management and committee reporting, supporting effective governance, and ensuring issues, actions and control themes are clearly articulated and followed through.

You’ll lead a small team, giving direction and support across risk, governance and reporting priorities.

We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon, London or Glasgow office. If you’re based at our Glasgow office, this will apply from 1 April 2027 and ahead of that there will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration events. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works.

Whilst these locations are where we are primarily looking to fill the role, if you’re an internal applicant based in a different location we would welcome your application and if successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this could work for this specific role. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.

Nationwide is committed to the redeployment of our employees impacted by change, as such applications for redeployment candidates will be prioritised in this recruitment process.

If you’re a colleague on long-term absence (for example, on parental leave) or a temporary worker, please use your personal email address to submit an application.

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing

As Lead Risk Partner, you will drive risk, governance and control activity across Finance. You will advise and challenge Finance teams to ensure risk and control frameworks are understood, documented and applied to the required standard.

You will own governance and reporting processes, producing clear, high-quality content for senior management, committees and governance forums. You will identify key risk and control themes early, assess their impact and drive clear reporting of issues, actions and emerging concerns.

Working across Finance and the wider business, you will build strong relationships to ensure the risk perspective is visible, understood and reflected in decision-making. You will represent the team in senior forums, providing insight into business priorities, risks, controls and governance requirements, while supporting the effective embedding of new and evolving risk and control framework requirements.

As the trusted lead for governance and reporting, you will take ownership of key activities and support strong outcomes for Finance. This is a hands-on role for someone who can collaborate effectively, exercise sound judgement and influence confidently at senior levels.

About you

As a minimum, you will have:

  • Experience in risk, governance and reporting.
  • Excellent understanding of risk management and governance, ideally gained in financial services or another regulated environment.
  • Experience producing sharp reporting, analysis or management information for senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to assess risks and controls, identify key themes and communicate findings with clarity.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to turn complex information into clear, practical messages.
  • Proven ability to manage stakeholders, influence effectively and build credibility with senior colleagues.
  • Well-developed planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver quality outcomes.
  • Ability to act objectively and independently while maintaining trusted working relationships.
  • A proactive, pragmatic and detail-focused approach, with the drive to produce work that stands up to challenge.

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind

  • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand

  • Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development

  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
