Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will be responsible for completing enhanced due diligence and (Know Your Customer) KYC reviews on medium and high-risk customers, including detailed transactional analysis and robust assessments of source of wealth and source of funds. You will ensure that VMUK appropriately assesses risk and clearly documents well‑reasoned, plausible rationales for all customers on our books. This includes working independently, with a high level of autonomy, to complete periodic reviews to a consistently high standard.

You will produce accurate, well‑evidenced retail customer risk assessments, recognising that poor or inconsistent rationale can expose both you and the bank to significant regulatory, reputational, and legal risks. Where confirmed politically exposed person (PEP) connections exist, you will complete comprehensive customer risk assessments in line with VMUK definitions, providing clear analysis, outlining potential risks, and making informed, proportionate recommendations.

You will play a key role in delivering first-line Financial Crime activities and processes, meeting agreed quality and performance objectives while ensuring service delivery that both enhances the customer experience and complies fully with regulatory expectations. Working closely with the second-line Financial Crime team, you will provide advice and guidance to first-line colleagues and clearly document this guidance to strengthen financial crime controls and reduce the likelihood of repeat issues.

In addition, you will identify, document, and escalate new and emerging financial crime risks, trends, and system performance issues. You will communicate these effectively to colleagues in the second line to support continuous improvement, drive consistency, and enhance the effectiveness of financial crime systems and controls across the business.

About you

For this role, you will have:

  • Experience of working within a financial crime environment and having worked in Customer Risk Assessments
  • A keen eye for detail and the ability to present your findings/thoughts on investigations in a clear and concise manner
  • The ability to analyse detailed information and be able to draw sophisticated conclusions and/or recommendations from the facts/data provided
  • The ability to work autonomously with excellent time management skills
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Microsoft Office and Excel knowledge

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind
  • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand
  • Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development
  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
