You’ll take responsibility for translating the new accounting standard into a workable framework, shaping data, modelling, behavioural assumptions, and governance requirements. You will ensure that all opportunities are taken to simplify processes and to enhance the integrity, efficiency, and accuracy of financial reporting and controls.

You will be a key member of the Treasury Finance team at Nationwide and take responsibility for areas of Treasury financial reporting as required. We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best. The working hours (per week) for this role can be between 28 and 35 hours. At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible.

Responsibilities:

  • As Finance Manager – Hedge Accounting, you’ll be a subject matter expert for hedge accounting and Treasury financial reporting, working at the centre of Treasury, Risk, Change and Financial Reporting.
  • You’ll play a key role in shaping how the Society responds to evolving accounting standards and market developments, helping to influence strategy, policy and decision‑making across the business.
  • You’ll lead the assessment and implementation of hedge accounting developments and the RMA framework, providing expert analysis, policy interpretation and recommendations that support Nationwide’s long‑term roadmap.
  • Working with senior stakeholders and external industry forums, you’ll bring valuable insight to complex challenges and help shape future accounting policy.
  • Drawing on your expertise in IFRS 9, financial instruments and Treasury activities, you’ll provide trusted advice on new transactions, develop robust accounting policies, and translate complex technical issues into clear, actionable insight.
  • You’ll also ensure accurate financial reporting, disclosures and audit readiness, while continually enhancing the hedge accounting risk and control environment to keep Nationwide well positioned for the future.

About you:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), with significant post qualification experience.
  • Proven experience in hedge accounting, Treasury Finance or product control within a financial services environment.
  • Demonstratable experience of derivatives, funding structures and balance sheet risk management.
  • A deep understanding of and the ability to value financial instruments found in the banking book of a large financial institution.
  • Excellent IT skills including Excel in particular.
  • Clear and engaging communicator, able to simplify complex accounting concepts.
  • An understanding of the developments to date of RMA would be useful.
