The Websites Team manages the Nationwide website estate, including themortgageworks.co.uk and product pages in the internet bank and banking app. The goal is to provide customers with a simple, brilliant experience online. Your role as SEO Manager involves shaping and delivering a comprehensive strategy covering SEO, AEO, GEO and AIO. You’ll collaborate with product, content, UX, media, social and engineering teams to embed SEO into site structure, page performance, content strategy and new feature development.
Location: You will work primarily from Swindon or London offices, spending at least two days per week on‑site (or 40% of your working time if part‑time). Hybrid working is available.
What you’ll be doing:
- The SEO Manager will lead the organic discovery strategy across search engines, answer‑based results and AI‑driven platforms.
- Duties include increasing visibility on Google, featured snippets, PAA, voice search and generative experiences while focusing on visibility‑centric metrics rather than only rankings.
- Develop and implement practical approaches to include content in featured snippets, AI‑generated summaries and conversational search results.
- Ensure content structure clarifies entities, answers real questions and meets user intent while adhering to EEAT principles.
- Lead the keyword, topic, prompt and intent strategy, turning search and AI insights into actionable briefs.
- Audit existing content to improve clarity, quality, answerability, freshness and expertise signals, collaborating with the editorial team.
- Track performance beyond rankings and sessions, focusing on visibility, share of voice, answer inclusion, citations, brand mentions and organic contribution to leads or revenue.
- Use Google Search Console, Adobe Analytics and SEO/AI visibility platforms to build performance dashboards and communicate insights to non‑SEO stakeholders.
- Serve as the go‑to expert on SEO, AEO, GEO and AIO, educating and influencing marketing, content, PR, product and leadership teams on best practices and strategic priorities.
About you:
- As a minimum, you’ll have strong technical SEO expertise, including crawlability, indexing, site architecture and internal linking.
- Proven experience in on‑page optimisation, metadata, content structure and entity‑based optimisation.
- Strong capability in keyword, topic and intent research, including competitor and landscape analysis.
- Experience using SEO tools such as Ahrefs, Conductor or equivalent platforms.
- Ability to interpret complex performance and search data, turning insight into clear, actionable recommendations.
- Strong understanding of content strategy and UX principles and how users interact with search and AI‑driven experiences.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to senior leaders and non‑specialist audiences.
- Strong influencing and stakeholder‑management skills, with confidence to challenge constructively and secure alignment across teams.
- Curious, adaptable mindset with a strong interest in the evolving search, AI and organic discovery landscape.
