We are looking for a senior software engineer for our Landlord Mortgages technology team, to design and develop solutions on our Microsoft platform. You will be involved at all stages from proof of concept, design, build & test through to live support.
The Mortgage Works is Nationwideâs Buy to Let mortgage provider. Weâre looking to develop âbuy to letâ mortgage applications and selfâservice systems of the future for both our landlords and brokers and need to help ensure they are developed at pace and are hosted on resilient and supported platforms.

As a senior engineer you will be designing technical solutions based on requirements, ensuring that the design is clearly documented with the technical tasks broken down and estimated. You will oversee the different phases of engineeringâled deliveries, whilst also being handsâon, as well as managing task allocation across other team members.
The work may include building new solutions or the enhancement and modernisation of our existing estate, and this will influence the choice of technology. Youâll ensure we are compliant with best practices, and that the guardrails and nonâfunctional requirements that Nationwide defines to ensure that systems are performant, resilient and secure, are in place.
As a team player, youâll drive continuous improvements and promote best practice through your actions and behaviours. Youâll also nurture and develop contacts and relationships to enable things to be done faster and more efficiently. You wonât be afraid to have a go, knowing that sometimes to fail fast is to learn fast.
About you
We are looking for experience in the following areas:
- .Net API and service development using C#
- C# Web development with experience of client frameworks such as React, VueJS, etc
- Solution design, including breakdown of necessary tasks in Jira or similar tool and producing formal documentation
- DevOps / CICD automation and tooling (e.g. GitHub Actions, Azure pipelines)
- Estimation of tasks, task allocation and tracking
- Relational database development - primarily Microsoft SQL Server (including SSIS and SSRS) or Oracle experience
- Microsoft SSIS and SSRS development
