Hybrid / Remote Working Available | UK-based

Make your expertise count. Shape diagnostics. Work with people who listen. Nationwide Laboratories is looking for an experienced Veterinary Clinical Pathologist to join our established team of pathologists. This is an opportunity to work across species, influence how a national diagnostic service evolves, and be part of an independent laboratory where clinical judgement still matters. You can be based at one of our UK laboratories or work remotely, with flexibility built around clinical delivery rather than rigid schedules. We know the veterinary diagnostics sector is changing fast — and we’re actively investing in our people, our capabilities, and how we support the profession. If you’re looking for a role where your voice is heard and your clinical expertise genuinely shapes outcomes, we’d like to talk.

About Us

Nationwide Laboratories is an independent veterinary diagnostic laboratory with over 30 years’ experience, providing services to practices across the UK and internationally. We have specialist cytology and histopathology teams and work with all species, with a strong companion animal focus. As part of NVS Group, we combine the stability of a national group with the autonomy of a specialist laboratory — allowing us to focus on quality diagnostics, strong clinician‑to‑clinician relationships, and continuous improvement.

The Role

As a Veterinary Clinical Pathologist, you will play a central role in supporting submitting practices through high‑quality interpretation, advice, and collaboration. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Interpretation of clinical pathology and laboratory data to provide clear, actionable diagnostic reports
  • Evaluation and reporting of cytology samples
  • Direct liaison with submitting veterinary practices to ensure optimal test selection and sample quality
  • Working closely with laboratory technical teams to maintain and improve diagnostic standards
  • Participation in clinical discussions, audits, team meetings, and service development
  • Contribution to training, CPD activity, and internal knowledge sharing
  • Supporting client‑facing activity including presentations, newsletters, or clinical materials

This is a clinically focused role with the scope to influence laboratory practice, service development, and clinical standards.

About You

We are looking for someone who enjoys diagnostic problem‑solving and collaborative working, and who values professional autonomy.

  • Demonstrable experience in diagnostic veterinary clinical pathology
  • Strong communication skills and a supportive, practice‑focused approach
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team

Desirable (but not all required)

  • Postgraduate qualification in Veterinary Pathology
  • FRCPath membership, or board certification (or eligibility) with:
    • American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP)
    • European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP)
  • Candidates working towards board certification are very welcome

We actively support further professional development and can provide supervision and protected time for those pursuing ACVP, ECVP, or FRCPath qualifications.

What we offer

  • Competitive salary, negotiable based on experience
  • Hybrid or remote working options
  • Enhanced company pension
  • Additional holiday for long service
  • Life assurance
  • Savings‑related share option plan
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • 24/7 confidential Employee Assistance Programme
  • A collaborative, experienced pathology team that values clinical quality over volume

Working Pattern

Monday to Friday, 9am–6pm Participation in a Saturday rota (frequency shared at interview)
