Apprentice Fire Alarm Engineer Nationwide is an established organisation looking to recruit Apprentice Fire Alarm Engineers to join our engineering team on a permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career within the fire alarm and life safety industry. The role combines practical, hands-on experience with structured in-house and external training, working alongside experienced engineers across a portfolio of large properties. At Nationwide, we place a strong emphasis on staff development and progression. Apprentices receive regular training, ongoing support and opportunities for self-learning. You will work alongside a qualified engineer until you have demonstrated the required level of competence to complete selected tasks independently. The role covers a variety of life safety systems, including fire alarms, emergency lighting and AOV systems. Nationwide also operates its own two-year apprentice development programme, with performance KPIs reviewed every six months. Successful achievement of these targets provides the opportunity for regular pay increases as your skills and experience develop. Many members of our current engineering team started with Nationwide as apprentices with no previous experience in the industry and have since progressed into fully qualified engineering roles. Key Responsibilities As an Apprentice Fire Alarm Engineer, you will: * Assist experienced engineers with the servicing and maintenance of fire alarm systems across occupied properties * Support engineers with testing and maintaining emergency lighting systems * Assist with servicing and maintenance of AOV systems * Complete structured in-house and external training across a range of fire and life safety disciplines * Develop fault-finding, repair and remedial skills as your training progresses * Work towards completing selected tasks independently once the required level of competence has been achieved * Progress towards undertaking fault investigation and remedial works, typically after approximately 12 months of training and practical experience * Join the call-out rota once approved by the Engineering Manager, typically after a minimum of 12–18 months * Follow company procedures and maintain high standards of safety, professionalism and customer service What We’re Looking For We are looking for someone who is motivated to learn and build a career within the fire and life safety industry. The successful candidate should have: * A positive attitude and willingness to learn * Strong communication and interpersonal skills * Confidence working in customer-facing environments * A reliable and professional approach to work * The ability to work effectively as part of a team * A full UK driving licence held for a minimum of three years * No more than six penalty points on their driving licence Previous fire alarm or engineering experience is not essential, as full training and support will be provided.
