.
Welcome to the Savings team! We are a passionate group of just over 25 (and growing) experts on a mission to make our savings products work for our members. We have a real sense of purpose – to improve the lives and financial wellbeing of savers.
We’re looking for an Assistant Product Manager to support a fantastic part of the team who are responsible for helping to maintain and deliver our Savings products, supporting key projects as well as proactively identifying ways to help improve our systems and processes, to set us up for success in the future.
Life has had a shake up recently, and how we work is changing to reflect that. We’re big supporters of flexibility, so for much of the week we’ll leave it up to you to decide where you choose to work. It could be amongst your home comforts, or in one of our fab offices.
We’re a friendly bunch - so we do like to get together - normally in one of our Swindon offices at least once a week – but if you live considerably further afield then we can chat about the best way to achieve this.
Your success isn’t based on how long you spend at your desk. You’ll have contracted hours, but we’re always happy to support flexible working wherever we can. That might mean working from home or different Nationwide offices or agreeing a working pattern to help you balance work and life. We will always strive to find a way that works for everyone.
Internal only: Nationwide is committed to the redeployment of our employees impacted by change, as such applications for redeployment candidates will be prioritised in this recruitment process.
External only: If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.
What you’ll be doing
As an Assistant Product Manager within our team you’ll:
- work with Product Managers on key Savings initiatives; developing and implementing delivery plans for activities that help improve member outcomes, support trading objectives and simplify our processes
- collaborate with people across the Society to execute our strategy, supporting key projects and providing product expertise
- work with the team to build a detailed knowledge of our policies, processes and systems, ensuring that robust controls are in place to protect members and the Society
- help maintain our Savings product book through the coordination and delivery of Run The Business activities
- work with people across the Society to get the support we need to put things right, when they do sometimes go wrong, and support the identification and delivery of the necessary controls to stop it from happening again
About you
Playing such an important role within the team means as a minimum you’ll have:
- a good understanding of savings products, processes and systems, with branch, operations or project delivery experience being beneficial
- excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing, and be able to clearly present information to people in the wider team, as well as across the Society
- strong excel skills, with an analytical mindset and a very strong attention to detail
- great stakeholder management and collaboration skills - building strong relationships with colleagues across the Society
- a curious and inquisitive mind - spending time analysing processes and data, spotting opportunities to make improvements that protect our members and the Society
- strong resilience and able to handle working at a fast pace, adaptable to change
Our Customer First behaviours are all about putting customers and members at the heart of how we work together. You can strengthen your application by showing the behaviours that resonate with you, and how you might have already demonstrated these.
- Say it straight - This is about being honest and direct with good intent and saying what needs to be said in the room. It’s also about being clear, precise, and using language that we and, importantly, our customers and members can understand.
- Push for better - This is about aiming high and constantly looking for better in how we work together and serve our customers and members.
- Get it done - This is about prioritising what will have the greatest impact, being decisive and taking accountability for delivering on the end-to-end outcome.
We know applying for jobs can sometimes feel like you’re sending an application into a black hole. We review each application individually. So, it’s a good idea to call out your most relevant experience on your application to give yourself the best chance.

What makes us different
Nationwide is the world’s largest building society. With over 15 million customers, we have a relationship with almost a quarter of the UK’s population. We’ve got the scale to compete with the big banks, but we’re not a bank.
As a building society, we’re owned by our members – that’s our customers who have their current account, mortgage or savings with us. It means we can do things differently to deliver our Purpose – Banking – but fairer, more rewarding, and for the good of society.
When you work at Nationwide, you can experience that difference for yourself. You’ll be part of a high-performing, purpose-driven organisation that offers rewarding career experiences and a highly competitive range of benefits to match. You’ll also be joining us at an important time as we seek to reach more and more people in the UK. We want everyone in the UK to know that they don’t have to bank with a bank. They can choose a modern mutual instead.
