As a Senior Economic Crime Investigator, you’ll join a high performing Financial Crime team dedicated to protecting Nationwide and its members from fraud and wider economic crime. This is a fast-paced, ever-changing environment where no two days are the same, offering fascinating subject matter, industry leading results, and the opportunity to work with advanced detection systems that evolve alongside criminal behaviour, all while delivering an outstanding member experience.

In this role, you’ll combine strong analytical and investigative expertise with confident decision-making under pressure, managing your workload effectively to deliver high-quality, timely reports. You’ll engage with a wide range of people, handling challenging conversations with professionalism and clarity, while ensuring fair and accurate outcomes. Alongside your investigative responsibilities, you’ll take a lead role in supervising, coaching, and developing the team, allocating work, setting standards, and supporting colleagues to perform at their best.

The shift pattern for this role is a rotating four-week schedule:

  • Week 1 - Monday to Thursday from 7pm to 6am
  • Week 2 - Thursday to Sunday from 7pm to 6am
  • Week 3 - Monday from 7pm to 6am and Saturday to Sunday from 7pm to 6am
  • Week 4 - Monday to Wednesday from 7pm to 6am

Please only apply if you can commit to these hours. An annual shift allowance of £9,200 is offered, paid monthly. This is a 12-month secondment opportunity. Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll lead and support the Financial Crime Overnight team as they handle complex and often sensitive cases, ensuring every investigation is thorough, accurate, and fully aligned with regulatory and internal standards. As a trusted subject matter expert, you’ll provide clear guidance and direction, enabling the team to navigate evolving risks with confidence while maintaining a strong focus on protecting our members.

You’ll play a key role in reviewing work and delivering insightful, constructive coaching that promotes fairness, consistency, and high-quality outcomes across all cases. Through your strong communication skills and sound judgement, you’ll support colleagues in managing challenging scenarios, helping them build capability and confidence while maintaining exceptional standards under pressure.

Alongside this, you’ll help drive best practice across the team by sharing your expertise, mentoring others, and strengthening our collective approach to prevention. Your leadership will be instrumental in developing a high-performing, collaborative environment where knowledge is shared, standards are upheld, and continuous improvement is part of everything we do.

About you

As a minimum, you will have:

  • Strong analytical and investigative experience, with a track record of identifying, assessing, and resolving complex fraud or financial crime cases
  • Proven experience conducting quality checks or case reviews, identifying errors or trends, and using findings to drive improvements or targeted coaching
  • Demonstrable experience supervising, mentoring, or coaching colleagues within a fraud or financial crime environment
  • Experience working in a regulated, high volume or fast-paced environment, with an understanding of compliance and risk controls
  • Hands-on experience using fraud detection or case management systems to assess risk and support decision-making
  • Evidence of making risk-based decisions, including handling escalations or complex cases with clear rationale and accountability
  • Strong workload management skills, with experience prioritising competing tasks and consistently meeting deadlines or service levels
