Join our Business Intelligence team as a Senior Business Intelligence Consultant and play a pivotal role in shaping how data is prioritised, delivered and leveraged across the organisation. This is a senior, hands-on role where you’ll combine deep technical expertise with experienced consulting and leadership skills to influence how data drives performance and decision-making. Acting as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders across Business Services and the wider Chief Operation Office, you’ll lead the definition and prioritisation of data demand, translating complex business challenges into scalable, strategic solutions. You’ll bring structure and governance to demand, ensuring a clear and outcome-focused backlog aligned to organisational priorities.

Working within an Agile environment, you’ll shape ways of working, mentor colleagues, and drive continuous improvement across delivery and technical capability. We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best. At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected. For this job, you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part-time, you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at our Swindon office.

A typical day involves working closely with a wide range of stakeholders to understand strategic priorities and shape how data and insight can best support them. You’ll lead discussions that translate complex business needs into clear, deliverable solutions aligned to organisational goals. You’ll own and manage the technical demand - balancing strategic initiatives with emerging business needs, ensuring work is prioritised effectively and delivered at pace. You may be designing scalable BI solutions, overseeing delivery across your team, or reviewing outputs to ensure they meet both technical and business standards. You’ll lead and develop a team of BI specialists, fostering a high‑performing, collaborative culture and building capability across the wider BI community. You’ll mentor colleagues, set best practice standards and act as a technical and consulting role model.

As a minimum requirement, you’ll have:

  • Significant experience leading the design and delivery of complex BI solutions using enterprise tooling such as Power BI (including advanced data modelling, DAX, and performance optimisation)
  • Experience with Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate) to design scalable solutions and drive automation at an organisational level
  • Proven experience working with modern data platforms (e.g. Lakehouse, Databricks, cloud-based data environments) and understanding end-to-end data lifecycles
  • Demonstrable experience engaging and influencing senior stakeholders, acting as a trusted advisor and shaping data demand and priorities
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop high-performing BI or data teams
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data insights into clear, compelling narratives that drive action

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind
  • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand
  • Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development
  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
