Senior Business Intelligence Analyst in Swindon

Swindon Full-Time No working from home possible
Nationwide Building Society
Description

Join our Business Intelligence team and play an important role in how data demand is shaped, prioritised, and delivered across the organisation. As a Senior Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst, you’ll combine growing stakeholder management skills with strong modern BI capabilities to help ensure the business gets the right insights at the right time.

Working as part of the team that connects business stakeholders with delivery, you’ll help manage relationships across Business Services, capturing demand, understanding priorities, and helping translate business needs into clear, actionable requirements. You’ll assist in bringing structure to both planned and ad hoc requests, contributing to a well-managed and prioritised backlog.

You’ll work alongside experienced colleagues to deliver high-quality Power BI and Power Platform solutions, using data from our Lakehouse and Databricks environment to build intuitive and impactful dashboards. You’ll help ensure outputs are accurate, user-friendly, and aligned with business needs.

You’ll also work within an Agile team, taking part in regular planning and team discussions to support smooth delivery and build your understanding of Agile ways of working.

Additionally, you’ll contribute to improving how data is accessed and used - supporting data quality initiatives, promoting automation, and embedding emerging capabilities such as AI-driven insights and intelligent automation to enhance efficiency and value. Through developing your data storytelling skills, you’ll help bring insights to life and support better decision making.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to grow their BI career, build strong stakeholder engagement skills, and gain hands-on experience in a collaborative, fast-paced data environment.

The role sits within Business Services, part of the Chief Operating Office (COO) - the function at the heart of how Nationwide operates and evolves. Within this environment, Business Intelligence is central to enabling better decisions, improving performance, and driving continuous improvement. By providing trusted, timely insights and supporting effective use of data, the team helps colleagues deliver high-quality services, improve operational efficiency, and enhance customer outcomes.

Ultimately, the impact of this area is felt by customers through more reliable services, faster and more informed decision making, and a stronger, more resilient organisation that is better equipped to meet their needs today and in the future.

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing

A typical day involves working closely with colleagues to understand what they need from their data and helping turn those needs into clear plans for delivery. You’ll support incoming requests, help organise priorities, and work with the team to keep work moving forward smoothly. You might be building or improving dashboards, checking that data is accurate and easy to understand, or using Power Platforms to automate data processes. You’ll also join regular team catch-ups to share progress, solve problems, and learn from others. Throughout the day, you’ll be helping make data more useful so people can make better decisions.

About you

For this role, you will have:

  • Experience building and maintaining Power BI dashboards and reports, including use of data models, measures, and visual design to meet defined business requirements

  • Hands-on experience using Power Platform tools (such as Power Apps and Power Automate) to create simple applications or automate business processes

  • Experience working with data from different sources, including preparing and validating data for reporting, with an understanding of data warehouse, Lakehouse, or Databricks environments

  • Demonstrable experience gathering and translating business requirements into clear, structured deliverables (such as user stories, acceptance criteria, or documented requirements)

  • Experience working in an Agile delivery environment, actively participating in regular team ceremonies such as planning sessions, daily check-ins, and retrospectives

  • Evidence of managing or supporting incoming demand, including prioritising tasks, maintaining a backlog, or coordinating multiple requests

  • Proven ability to engage with stakeholders and communicate insights clearly using data visualisation and storytelling techniques

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind

  • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand

  • Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development

  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
