Job description

Good things this way

If you are a driven, high performer who enjoys solving problems and learning new skills, our Risk Development Programme offers you a rewarding career in banking.

As part of the Risk Development Programme, you\’ll spend 2–3 years developing new knowledge and skills while contributing to the improvement of Nationwide\’s processes, products, and services for our 16 million members.

You\’ll join our Regulatory Compliance teams, working to provide advice, interpretation, and challenge on regulatory rules, and ensuring operational and conduct risks are well understood and controlled. This includes the Regulatory Relations team, who manage Nationwide\’s day‑to‑day relationships with key regulators such as the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA), Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), and Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).

You\’ll build skills from development and training as you strive for high-performance, while building strong relationships to help us make banking – but fairer, more rewarding, and for the good of society.

Where you\’ll be working

Our Risk function works across all key areas of risk that affect Nationwide and our ability to meet customer needs. We help deliver Nationwide\’s strategy in a safe and sustainable way, providing expertise and constructive challenge to colleagues so we can support both current and future customers with confidence.

What you\’ll be doing

You\’ll build valuable knowledge and skills while connecting with teams across our Risk function, building skills and experience that will prepare you for a rewarding career in risk and compliance.

Your journey will focus on navigating and interpreting a dynamic regulatory landscape, ensuring compliance and effectively communicating new and changing regulations. You\’ll also develop strong stakeholder engagement skills, maintaining excellent relationships with regulators and internal teams to support safe delivery of change and manage issues, with a consistent focus on developing simply brilliant experiences for our customers.

Location

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job you\’ll spend at least two days per week, based at our Swindon Office. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works.

If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.

About you

We\’re looking for ambitious, purpose driven candidates who want to build a rewarding career in banking. You\’ll have a determination to push for better, and a focus on delivering for our 16 million members. Whether you\’re a recent graduate, returning to work, or changing careers, we\’re interested in your potential.

You\’ll thrive in our high-performing culture, if:

  • You have an interest in risk management and risk identification particularly in banking.
  • You\’re bold in living our customer first behaviours, you are innovative and have a growth mindset.
  • Development is something you expect and embrace.
  • You push for high performance – from yourself and those around you.
  • You have a high standard of numerical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • You can analyse, and problem solve to identify challenges and propose solutions.
  • Through research and experience, you have commercial awareness of Nationwide and the financial services industry.
  • You can build and maintain strong working relationships and have the resilience to adapt to change

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Feel what customers feel – We step into our customers\’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind
  • Say it straight – We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we\’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand
  • Push for better – We don\’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development
  • Get it done – We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes.

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.

The extras you\’ll get

High performing and purpose-driven colleagues deserve a rewarding career and competitive benefits to match. We offer you:

  • 25 days holiday per year, which increases over time to 30. Plus, you can \’buy\’ up to 10 extra days each year, giving you even more choice.
