Manager Portfolio Management and Operations in Swindon

Swindon Full-Time No working from home possible
Nationwide Building Society
Description

We are looking for a proactive and organised professional to join Cloud, Digital and Integration (CD&I). This is a varied and fast-paced role, combining creative colleague communications with hands-on operational support.

You will bring COO communications to life for CD&I colleagues and use creative thinking to boost engagement and create a positive people environment. At the same time, you will keep the operation running smoothly by coordinating activity, tracking progress and ensuring plans and processes stay on track.

You will also play an important role in improving how the Business Support team works, identifying opportunities to simplify processes and using tools or simple automation to reduce manual effort and increase efficiency.

Reporting to the Senior Business Manager, this role supports CD&I, part of the Group COO function. The team is responsible for the Society’s Core Digital Channels (including Mobile App and Internet Banking), the Middleware estate and Cloud Platforms.

Embracing new technologies, our focus is enriching and improving our customer’s digital experience with new capabilities and improved performance and resilience.

We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon or London offices. Whilst this location is where we are primarily looking to fill the role, if you’re an internal applicant based in a different location we would welcome your application and if successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this could work for this specific role. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.

Nationwide is committed to the redeployment of our employees impacted by change, as such applications for redeployment candidates will be prioritised in this recruitment process.

If you’re a colleague on long term absence (for example, on parental leave) or a temporary worker, please use your personal email address to submit an application.

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing

A typical day in this role is varied and fast-paced, focused on helping the CD&I function run smoothly and remain a great place to work. You will bring COO communications to life for CD&I colleagues, using feedback and insight to make sure they reach the right people in the right way. You will use creative thinking to boost engagement and create a positive people environment, where colleagues understand and celebrate the value and impact of their work.

Alongside this, you will support the day-to-day running of the function by keeping key activities organised, tracking progress on actions, and ensuring plans and processes are up to date. You will also look for ways to improve how the team works, using tools or simple automation to increase efficiency and reduce manual effort, while working closely with senior colleagues to maintain strong governance and support wider business priorities.

About you

As a minimum, you will have:

  • Experience of using creative thinking to plan and deliver employee communications across channels, to increase colleague understanding and engagement
  • Ability to use feedback and culture survey insight to shape clear communication plans that reach the right audiences and improve impact
  • Experience of managing a varied workload in a fast-paced environment, balancing planned activity with reactive business needs and meeting agreed deadlines
  • Experience of supporting the smooth running of a function, including tracking actions, maintaining plans and ensuring key processes remain up to date
  • Experience of improving ways of working by identifying inefficiencies and using tools or simple automation to reduce manual effort and increase consistency
  • Experience of working across teams to deliver outcomes, including coordinating activity, tracking progress and addressing blockers
  • Ability to build effective relationships and influence senior stakeholders to maintain strong governance and support wider business priorities

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind

  • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand

  • Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development

  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
