Description

We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Project Manager to lead key Operational Resilience projects and deliver disaster‑recovery‑ready database and infrastructure solutions for Nationwide. As we invest in resilience, cloud adoption, and meeting regulatory demands, this role is vital.

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing

As an Infrastructure Project Manager, you will strategically oversee operational risk minimisation, ensuring robust compliance frameworks and safeguarding critical services. Your leadership will drive high-impact, end-of-service-life risk mitigation initiatives for core banking systems, guaranteeing application availability whilst managing multi-million-pound budgets (£3m–£4m) and between 30–50 resources.

You will direct infrastructure upgrades to supported technologies, enhance scalability, modernise databases, and ensure digital solutions consistently align with organisational standards. Managing and mentoring global teams, you will execute seamless technology transformation projects within defined financial parameters. Liaising with senior stakeholders, you will secure resilient architectures that offer high availability and comprehensive replication across multiple sites. Overseeing the full lifecycle of design, development and deployment, you will serve as the primary point of contact from inception through to delivery.

Day to day you will uphold best practices and governance in hardware procurement and implementation, you will maintain fiscal responsibility for large-scale expenditures. Exercising decisive judgement, you will resolve complex issues efficiently, driving projects to timely completion within budget constraints and facilitate cross-functional collaboration, you will foster team autonomy and maximise collective performance with a focus on delivering sustained value within significant project budgets. Finally, you will embed enhanced ways of working by integrating advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), driving process optimisation and fostering continuous innovation across teams.

About you

We’re seeking someone with:

  • Knowledge of Nationwide infrastructure, processes, and controls

  • Experience with SQL and relational database modelling

  • Proven project lifecycle expertise, with the ability to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to quality standards

  • Strong negotiation, organizational, and planning skills and familiarity with regulatory delivery environments

  • Demonstrable success in both waterfall and agile settings, adhering to governance and meeting tight deadlines

  • Skill in reporting progress, managing risks, issues, and dependencies, with clear reporting and documentation abilities

  • Competence in resolving delivery blockers and advising stakeholders

  • Commercial awareness and supplier management experience
