Job description
Good things this way
If you are a driven, high performer who enjoys solving problems and learning new skills, our 3-year Treasury Development Programme offers you a rewarding career in banking.
You will work across four placements, where you\'ll gain hands‑on experience in Treasury operations, risk reporting, modelling, and sustainability, building both technical expertise and workplace skills. In your final year, you\'ll join a front‑office trading desk in London, applying this knowledge in a fast‑paced market environment to complete a well‑rounded Treasury journey.
We\'ll also support you to study for your ACT (Association of Corporate Treasurers) qualification.
Thrive within our high-performance culture as you experience hands-on learning, tailored training, and a strong support network.
Where you\'ll be working
Our Finance function ensures we spend our customers\' money wisely. We provide financial partnering services, produce statutory and regulatory reporting, raise wholesale funds & maintain liquidity. We also provide lending for social housing, deliver a financial plan, manage stress testing requirements, and provide and maintain financial systems and technology.
Based within Finance, our Treasury team ensures Nationwide remains financially safe, secure, and sustainable. The team manages key balance sheet risks, including liquidity and capital, raises wholesale funding, and uses hedging to protect against interest rate and foreign exchange risks.
What you\'ll be doing
Back office placement
Your first 6-month placement will be in Collateral Management, Settlements, or Conduct & Compliance. You\'ll gain a clear view of how Nationwide\'s Treasury operates, from executing derivatives and wholesale funding to managing liquid assets. You\'ll build understanding of how to optimise collateral, ensure regulatory compliance, and how to process transactions accurately and on time
Middle office placements (two 9 month placements)
In your second Placement, you\'ll join one of our Balance Sheet Risk Reporting teams — Liquidity & Product, Capital & Credit, or Market Risk. Here you\'ll build knowledge of the key risks across Nationwide\'s balance sheet and learn how both the business and regulators manage and monitor them.
Next, you\'ll move into Framework & Modelling, Recovery & Resolution, or Sustainability. These teams will give you deeper expertise through detail‑oriented assignments, combining technical analysis, regulatory insight, and strategic thinking. It\'s a chance to become a subject matter expert and lay strong foundations for a career in financial risk and sustainability.
Front office placement (12 months)
For the final year of the programme, you will join one of our front office trading desks. This is either on the Derivatives, Investments, or Wholesale Funding desk. This rotation will utilise the skills and knowledge you have built over the previous two years into managing and executing trading positions, be that investing in bonds, issuing wholesale funding or using derivatives to externalise risk.
The dealing room in London is a fast-paced environment reacting to local and international events that impact financial markets – you will become an expert in certain markets and be able to communicate market trends both internally and with a wide external network. The placement will complete the journey across Treasury to provide a well-rounded knowledge base of how the function operates.
