The Retail Transformation team is a vibrant and fast-paced area responsible for managing and delivering impactful business change. Our work is closely aligned with Nationwide’s strategy and delivered through our Retail teams. We collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders from across the organisation on a variety of initiatives. Whether we’re improving service offerings, enhancing operational processes, or mitigating risk, everything we do contributes directly to Nationwide’s success. In this team, you’ll play a key role in making a meaningful difference for both our customers and our colleagues.
In this role, you will lead medium to large-scale business change initiatives across the full change lifecycle from early-stage analysis and business case development to delivering business readiness activities for colleagues across the Society. You will also support larger strategic programmes by managing individual workstreams and contributing to business readiness planning and execution.
Your focus will be on ensuring that end-to-end change is delivered effectively across Retail, at pace and to a high standard. All change will be implemented in a considered and controlled manner, ensuring the full realisation of intended benefits and outcomes. In addition, you will matrix-manage and support Change Consultants either by guiding them as they deliver their own small to medium-sized changes or by collaborating with them on larger initiatives. You will also play a key role in supporting leadership within the Retail Transformation function.
This role sits within the Retail Business Services team, which brings together colleagues from Retail Transformation, Workforce Capacity and Planning, Training, and Customer Journey Management. We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best. We are currently looking to fill three 12-month secondment opportunities. At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected. For this job, you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part-time, you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon, Bournemouth or Northampton office.
If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works. Nationwide is committed to the redeployment of our employees impacted by change, as such applications for redeployment candidates will be prioritised in this recruitment process.
Responsibilities:
- Working alongside Senior Change Managers, you will lead end-to-end change and retail readiness projects, taking ownership of a sub-portfolio of initiatives delivered across all Retail teams including the Branch Network, Telephony, Digital, Complaints, Fraud, and AML.
- You will leverage your strategic insight, business change expertise, and strong stakeholder relationships to drive successful delivery and outcomes across your portfolio.
- This includes planning and defining project approaches, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives, stakeholder expectations, and delivery timelines.
- You will matrix-manage Change Consultants, providing clear direction, coaching, and development support, while building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders to influence delivery of required services and outcomes.
- Operating within established governance frameworks, you will proactively identify and mitigate risks and issues, escalating concerns where necessary.
- Using tools such as Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, and Microsoft Office, you will track progress and report on project performance.
- Additionally, you will be responsible for identifying, validating, and measuring the outcomes and benefits of change, acting as an ambassador for Change Delivery and Performance by championing both internal and external customers.
- You will also support the design and implementation of processes to ensure compliance with FCA and other relevant regulatory requirements, ensuring they are clear, accessible, operationally effective, and aligned with the organisation’s strategy and risk appetite.
About you:
- A track record of delivering projects within a retail/business change role or experience of end-to-end change management.
- Excellent organisational, planning and communication skills linked to delivering change.
- Strong influencing, communication and collaboration skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders across the business at all levels.
- Proven expertise in applying project and business change management principles/methodologies and the governance required, alongside understanding their application within Nationwide.
- Experience of working in a fast-paced environment and flexibility to move from one project delivery to another.
- Experience of matrix managing or leading people to deliver great outcomes.
- A good level of ability using Excel and PowerPoint.
