We are at the centre of the society’s tech strategy and the focal point for our current and future Kubernetes platform.

As a MongoDB Database Administrator you will be working in project teams designing, building and maintaining MongoDB databases and infrastructure to provide strong business solutions. You will be involved at all stages from design, build to the support of both non-production and production environments. We are creating a learning culture at NBS and ongoing development is important and the opportunity to increase skills in technologies is encouraged. As a part of this role you will have the opportunity to join our many communities to share ideas and collaborate with other professional engineers.

For this job you will spend at least two days per week, or if part time you will spend 40% of your working time, based at either our London, Swindon, Northampton or Bournemouth offices. If you are based outside of our Swindon and London offices, there is the requirement to attend Swindon or London once a month for workshops, collaboration and ad/hoc meetings.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Working within the delivery teams you will work collaboratively with others to build the best solutions for Nationwide using your technical leadership skills and SME knowledge to offer advice/consultancy, build systems and work through problems to provide solid working solutions within the MongoDB space.
  • Providing guidance and direction to less experienced Engineers to help create fit for purpose designs and/or solutions to meet the team objectives.
  • You may be required to work on-call from time to time.

About you:

You will have a proven track record in providing technical delivery through the design, build and implementation of MongoDB and ideally you will have in depth knowledge & experience of the following:

  • Operating system concepts of Linux
  • Configuring and supporting MongoDB OpsManager for Backups and Deployments
  • Understanding of MongoDB architecture, replication and sharding
  • Supporting document based JSON data structures, exporting and importing documents
  • Assisting development and testing teams with troubleshooting within MongoDB and tuning performance, application workload and index recommendations
  • Be comfortable working across multiple projects and immersing yourself in a team
  • Be ready to share your expertise with our emerging talent
  • Experience building relationships with both technical and business stakeholders, gaining their respect and trust based on your knowledge and professionalism
  • Have the ability and desire to quickly learn new technologies

Knowledge and Experience of at least three of the below areas:

  • Infrastructure as Code – (Ansible or similar)
  • LDAP integration
  • Kerberos integration
  • Experience of/understanding of Red Hat Openshift
  • Experience of/understanding of Kafka
  • Network and infrastructure security concepts
  • Agile project management methodologies and scrum agile framework
  • Regulatory environments such as PCI and GDPR
  • Working with 3rd parties / suppliers
