We are looking for a well-established technical engineer with a strong background in Security Technology and a wealth of experience in solution design. You will be working on multiple projects within Security, focusing on our security tooling, where there is an ever-increasing need for automation, simplification, and adoption of AI. We have a learning culture at Nationwide, and ongoing development is important; the opportunity to increase skills in technologies is encouraged. As part of this role, you will have the opportunity to join our many communities to share ideas and collaborate with other engineers.

We would expect you to have experience in one or more of these key technology areas: Microsoft Sentinel, Microsoft Defender XDR, SOAR, and event pipeline & filtering solutions. A background in both on-premises infrastructure and cloud environments (Azure, AWS) is essential. We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best. At Nationwide, we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK-wide estate while also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, learn, and feel connected. For this job, you'll be located at our nearest regional hub. There will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration events in one of our office sites, anticipated to be once per quarter in Swindon. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works.

Responsibilities

You will be working as part of the Security Transformation Engineering Team; you will regularly be responsible for:

  • Solution Design
  • Driving and innovating our SIEM product solutions from a deep technical engineering perspective
  • Identifying and implementing automation opportunities and solution delivery including troubleshooting and providing effective outcomes
  • Coaching and mentoring colleagues and junior engineers
  • Leading and influencing design decisions and outcomes across all areas of security
  • Representing the team at design authorities
  • Providing guidance and advice to other engineers within the team
  • Contributing to our engineering communities in developing and establishing best practices, patterns, and guardrails
  • Working with both internal and strategic partners to deliver key solutions

This role will be working in a regulated environment, so experience with PCI-DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) and GDPR would be a real advantage. You may be required to work out of hours from time to time.

About you

For this role, it is essential that you have/be:

  • Experience in the SIEM tooling listed above
  • An infrastructure and coding background, familiarity with “Infrastructure as code” and post-deployment configuration management, e.g. skills in one or more of: PowerShell, Terraform, Ansible, Windows/Unix scripting, Java, C#, Python
  • Strong experience in DevOps & CI/CD, delivering robust automation and pipeline solutions
  • Experience with designing and delivering solutions on Linux in enterprise environments
  • A good understanding of Active Directory and Entra ID
  • Experience in deploying standard and complex off-the-shelf technical solutions
  • Able to work with business analysts and stakeholders, and to work amongst technical teams to deliver and support solutions

  • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind

  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer-first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
