This is an exciting opportunity to join our Originations team which is the front door of Nationwide. The Originations team is responsible for the design, build, test and support of the origination journeys across Retail products. Our objective is to deliver a suite of origination services on common cloud technology to our customers and colleagues.

As a DevOps engineer in Core Banking Originations you’ll be working in our Platform Team supporting agile scrum teams to build and enhance the Originations journeys our customers use to open new accounts with Nationwide. Our applications are the first thing many of our customers see, so to work in this role it is vital you have a keen eye for detail and you won’t be afraid to speak up with suggestions and/or improvements. Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing

Harnessing your experience in modern DevOps practices, cloud platforms, and automation, you’ll work as part of an agile, product‑focused team to design, build, and operate the platforms and services that power our customer‑facing applications.

You’ll collaborate closely with software engineers, engineering leads, security specialists, and reliability experts to deliver secure, scalable, and resilient digital journeys—ensuring our customers can seamlessly apply for products such as current accounts.

You’ll provide guidance and direction to less experienced engineers, helping them create high quality, fit for purpose artefacts that align with organisational requirements and engineering strategy. Throughout the delivery lifecycle, you will offer technical input and consultancy to stakeholders, and you lead or perform technical quality reviews within your squad or hub to ensure robust engineering standards are maintained.

In this role, you’ll use industry‑leading tools and technologies to create automated, repeatable, and observable delivery pipelines and infrastructure.

About you

You bring experience with:

  • AWS and cloud‑native architectures
  • Kubernetes for deploying and running containerised workloads
  • Terraform for managing infrastructure as code
  • Experience working with continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) With GitHub Actions and GitOps principles
  • Dynatrace or similar tools for observability and performance monitoring
  • An understanding of modern API driven web application architecture
