You’ll be joining our Economic Crime Engineering team. We use Feedzai for real-time fraud detection and we are expanding Netreveal’s capabilities for AML screening, and we’re looking for full stack senior engineers passionate about developing new capabilities as well as maintaining the platforms for our fraud detection and financial crime systems.
Our vision is to create dedicated squads that truly own our platforms end-to-end from building integrations and data pipelines through to keeping the lights in production. We want to create techno-functional teams with T-shaped engineers who understand both the technology and the business domain, can move fast and become trusted partners to our Fraud and Financial Crime business.
At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected. For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part-time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at our Glasgow office. If you’re based at our Glasgow office, this will apply from 1 April 2027 and ahead of that there will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration events.
If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.
Responsibilities:
- You’ll be responsible for the capabilities of your platform area from design through production - building integrations and data pipelines, deploying changes to production, and troubleshooting issues when they arise.
- Day to day that means a mix of development work (writing Java or SQL depending on what the problem needs), executing production deployments, proactive monitoring and incident response, and working directly with our Fraud or Financial Crime business teams to understand what we need to build next.
- You’ll coordinate with our platform vendors to improve operational processes and improve observability.
About you:
- Hands-on experience in a financial services or similarly regulated environment - experience on mission-critical systems where uptime is important.
- Hands-on experience with fraud detection or financial crime platforms like Feedzai, Netreveal or similar.
- Technical background covering Java development, Microservices, databases, real-time event processing.
- Ability to lead technical discussions and make architectural decisions.
- Experience driving platform reliability and operational excellence, including incident management, root cause analysis and continual service improvement.
- Experience defining and implementing technical standards, governance and engineering best practices.
- Domain experience in either Fraud detection and/or AML compliance domains is desirable – good understanding of transaction monitoring scenarios, customer screening, risk scoring.
- Communication skills to work directly with other engineers and architects and non-technical business stakeholders.
Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:
- Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind.
- Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand.
- Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development.
- Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes.
You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.

- 25 days holiday, pro rata.
- Private medical insurance.
- A highly competitive pension to help you build a strong foundation for retirement.
