Responsibilities

  • The post completes a number of functions and statutory duties, including child protection and safeguarding in line with the Children Act (1989) and the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) 2014 Act.
  • The social worker will co-produce proportionate assessments and Care and Support Plans with families and partner agencies, produce court reports and undertake placement of children for Adoption.
  • The social worker will hold a caseload supporting children in need of Care and Support, children whose names are on the Child Protection register and Children Looked after.
  • To effectively manage Part 4 Care and support plans for children whose names are placed on the child protection registers and for children who are considered at an initial child protection conference.
  • This will include preparing social work reports for conferences, coordinating and chairing core groups, undertaking statutory visits and escalating concern through consultation with Team Manager where a child protection plan is not effectively safeguarding the child.
  • Undertaking “duty” responsibilities on a rota basis in a planned way for two days a month and as appropriate or necessary.
  • Take responsibility for day-to-day organisation of personal caseload, in accordance with Departmental and Cwm Taf Safeguarding Children policies, guidelines and legislative requirements.
  • Participate and prepare for individual planned supervision and staff appraisal sessions, seek guidance and informal supervision from a senior social worker or manager when required.
  • Engage proactively with team meetings, staff briefings and contribute to the development of the service.
  • Have knowledge and awareness of, and work within the framework of all departmental and Cwm Taf Safeguarding Children Board policies, procedures and practices.
  • To be involved in the initiation and the ongoing management of legal proceedings to safeguard and promote a child’s welfare, in consultation with the senior social worker/team manager.
  • Complete adoption paperwork and prepare information to present to the Agency decision making for whom a plan for adoption is being considered.
  • Work in collaboration with Valle, Valleys and Cardiff Adoption Service to ensure that children do not wait to be placed for adoption and for those children placed that the child’s permanence is secured via an adoption order in a timely manner.
