JOB PURPOSE

Provide OT advice and assistance to all departments within Caerphilly CBC, relevant partners, third sector organisations, health professionals on matters relating to both occupational therapy and housing for disabled persons. Assisting the Private and Public Sector Housing service together with other social landlords to maximise the number and optimise the use of accessible or adapted homes throughout the County Borough. Provide specialist support relating to adaptations to meet specific needs of individual households where improvement works are to be undertaken to meet the requirements of the Post Asset Management scheme.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree / Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of regulations for moving and handling of animate and inanimate objects.
  • Understanding of ergonomics and anthropometrics and their application when considering adaptations.
  • Knowledge of medical conditions, their progress and likely prognosis.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret legislation applicable to housing provision and adaptation.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret alternative funding streams for the provision of adaptations.
  • Knowledge of design principles and British Standards in relation to adaptations.
  • Understanding of the Occupational Therapy Professional Code of Practice and Ethics and their application in practice.
  • Knowledge of health and social care legislation and current practice.
  • Knowledge of the benefits of promoting independence / rehabilitation.
  • Knowledge of current best practice in OT.
  • Knowledge of building construction associated with the provision of adaptations.
  • Knowledge of Housing Registers and Allocations Policies.

SKILLS

  • Ability to read architectural drawings and plans.
  • ICT literate.
  • Ability to work precisely and effectively under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Report preparation, design briefs and written advice and recommendations.
  • Ability to research solutions for specific client circumstances, keep abreast of technological developments, and be knowledgeable about commercially available equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and interpersonal.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective partnerships.
  • Ability to work as part of a team but self‑motivated and able to programme daily work activities against set objectives and targets.
  • Ability to display an objective and balanced attitude towards dealing with requests or complaints.
  • Ability to be assertive and make decisions/recommendations based on sound evidence.
  • Commitment to equality, fairness and problem solving through negotiation.
  • Ability to adopt a customer‑focused approach.
  • Welsh language skills.

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in working in a frontline client role and advising on major and minor works of adaptations to assist individuals to maximise their safety and independence.
  • Experience of working in housing and / or occupational health.
  • Experience of working with multi‑disciplinary teams.

OTHER

  • Self‑motivated and flexible approach.
  • Full UK Category B (Cars) driving licence and the use of a motor vehicle insured for business / work purposes to travel throughout the borough to attend meetings and visit clients at their home.
  • Ability to work outside normal office hours when required.
  • Must be prepared to work from any designated workplace as required.
