What you’ll be doing:
- Overseeing the effective and efficient delivery of grounds maintenance within a designated geographical area.
- Assisting the team by carrying out a range of tasks required for grounds maintenance including, but not limited to, weeding, dead heading, hoeing, planting, pruning, cutting, and watering communal beds.
- Using and operating a variety of tools, machinery, and equipment, in accordance with Group and manufacturers guidelines.
- Supervising and coaching Grounds Maintenance Operatives.
- Providing cover in the absence of other colleagues.
- Assisting the Estate Services Manager to ensure that operatives are safe and have completed their risk assessments, any relevant health and safety training, and comply with lone working arrangements.
- Actively promoting and enforcing health and safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment for all team members.
- Carrying out estate inspections, checking they are well maintained and reporting any service issues, communal repairs, compliance hazards or tenancy management problems.
- Monitoring team performance and raising concerns to the Estate Services Manager so they can be addressed promptly.
- Ensuring that all work vehicles are compliant with the Southern Housing fleet policy.
- Carrying out spot checks on operatives machinery to ensure it’s being well kept and maintained.
- Keeping track of materials & equipment and assisting the Estate Services Manager in ordering supplies to ensure the team have the tools, equipment and materials to complete their tasks efficiently.
What you’ll need:
- Experience of undertaking gardening / ground maintenance duties.
- Experience working in an Estate Services environment, with an understanding of health and safety practices, including conducting risk assessments, adhering to COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of health and safety considerations as they apply to this role.
- A proactive mindset and problem‑solving skills to identify and resolve operational challenges or issues that may arise within the Estate Services team.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling you to effectively liaise with team members and residents.
- Attention to detail to conduct thorough estate inspections and report on necessary repairs, compliance, or tenancy matters.
- A valid UK driving licence and the ability to drive company vehicles as and when required.
