Role purpose
The nurse needs to have a current NMC pin and be on the nursing register with relevant OH experience. They will potentially be required to visit day centres or schools to deliver Hep B vaccines or run a clinic from OHU in Sutton in Ashfield for these and driver medicals. Predominantly the work will be case management to assist with backlogs due to sickness absence, to support a reduction in waiting times and prolonged sickness absence within the organisation and those organisations we support. Working primarily from home with some occasional visits to sites across the county of Nottinghamshire, so will need access to a car and a clean driving licence and hold business insurance. The main Occupational Health department is based at Byron House (NG17 4NX), though this is mostly used by one OHP delivering face to face medicals with OHA visits for occasional clinics. The purpose of this role is to support the Occupational Health team during sickness absences with various duties.
Key responsibilities
- Management referrals, so must be adept at writing professional OH reports
- Pre-placement triage and medicals
- Driver medicals
- Hepatitis B vaccination and venepuncture
- Triage of occupational health referrals
- Occupational Health enquiries over the phone (via Teams)
- Good IT skills, working knowledge of Eopas and Teams would be preferred, but ability to learn new IT skills quickly is important
The team is small with a mental health nurse OH advisor, another OHA and a Senior OHA with support from an external team of OH physicians. Admin support is provided by 1 full time and 2 part time business support employees. This role reports to the senior OH advisor.
Skills and experience required
- At least 3 years Occupational Health management referral reporting experience
- Ideally local government OH experience or experience in a unionised environment
- Current vaccination certificate and background of delivering Hepatitis B along with knowledge of any Green Book changes
- Experience of delivering driver medicals to vocational and professional drivers
