Assistant Curator of Plants

We are seeking an Assistant Curator of Plants to support the development, care, documentation, display, and interpretation of our plant collection. The role involves facilitating access, assisting with volunteers, events, and community activities related to the collections, particularly within the framework of the Museums Association Esme Fairbairn Collections Fund project Dead Plants Society.

The successful candidate will help deliver the project aimed at engaging East Leeds communities with their botanical environment through the plant collection. Responsibilities include caring for collections on display and in storage, maintaining records, ensuring security and condition of items (including loans), and assisting with educational and interpretative projects.

Additional duties involve setting up exhibitions, supervising staff and volunteers, contributing to research and publications, supporting grant applications, and working with commercial teams to enhance merchandising opportunities. The role also requires promoting the collections and the service through various outreach activities, participating in professional networks, and adhering to health and safety and equality policies.

This position is based at the National Museum Directors\’ Council, Tate Britain, Millbank, London SW1P 4RG.
