About NVD Founded in 1980 as a family-owned business, NVD UK was established to support vehicle manufacturers by ensuring the timely and incident-free distribution of their products. Over the years, we have become a trusted one-stop solution, delivering all three core pillars of outbound logistics: transporting, storing, and enhancing our customers’ vehicles before final delivery.

The Role A Level 3 Automotive Technician at the National Vehicle Distribution (NVD) Southampton Workshop typically operates within their Vehicle Preparation Centre (VPC). Unlike a standard retail garage, this role focuses on high-volume, high-standard preparation and technical rectification of new vehicles (including brands like BYD, Maxus, and Omoda) before they reach dealerships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advanced Diagnostics & Rectification: Using computerised diagnostic tools to identify and resolve complex mechanical and electrical faults, especially on vehicles that fail their initial Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI).
  • PDI & Technical Campaigns: Carrying out comprehensive inspections, safety recalls, and manufacturer-led software or hardware campaigns.
  • Specialised Technical Tasks: Executing ADAS Calibration (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), EV battery replacement and 4-wheel alignment using specialist workshop equipment.
  • Operational Excellence: Adhering to Lean methodologies (e.g., 5S) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent quality and efficiency across high-volume throughput.
  • Team Leadership: Mentoring junior technicians or apprentices and leading small teams (typically pairs) to meet Standard Hour targets for specific jobs.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Formal Certification: A recognised Level 3 light vehicle technician (or equivalent City & Guilds/IMI) is mandatory.
  • Experience: Proven experience in a professional automotive workshop; Main Dealer or large-scale vehicle logistics experience is highly advantageous.
  • Licensing: A full, valid UK Driving Licence is required to move and test vehicles within the facility.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using modern diagnostic software, hand tools, and workshop machinery.
  • Flexibility: Ability to work shifts, which may include evenings or weekends (up to 6 days a week during peak seasons).
