Role Summary

The Health & Safety Officer is a key tactical role designed to support the H&S Manager in maintaining a robust safety culture across our logistics and processing sites. With approximately 3 years of post‑graduate experience, you will bridge the gap between high‑level strategy and on‑the‑ground operational excellence. You will be responsible for the day‑to‑day administration of our safety management systems, conducting site inspections, assisting with ISO audits, and acting as a primary point of contact for frontline staff to ensure a "timely and incident‑free" environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • System Maintenance: Assist the H&S Manager in optimizing and updating Safety Management Systems to ensure ongoing compliance with ISO 45001, 9001, and 14001.
  • Inspections & Auditing: Conduct regular site safety inspections and internal audits. Document findings, track corrective actions to completion, and ensure all equipment (including fleet and workshop tools) meets safety standards.
  • Incident Investigation: Support the H&S Manager in investigating incidents and near‑misses. Use root‑cause analysis to identify trends and help communicate "lessons learned" to the wider team to prevent recurrence.
  • Data & Reporting: Maintain H&S databases and KPIs. Prepare monthly reports on safety performance, highlighting areas for improvement and tracking the success of new safety initiatives.
  • Training Coordination: Deliver tool‑box talks and safety inductions for new hires and contractors. Maintain accurate training records and identify gaps in staff certifications.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify practical ways to increase operational efficiency without compromising safety, aligned with NVD’s commitment to innovation and technology.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Certification: NEBOSH/IOSH General Certificate (Level 3) is required; working towards a NEBOSH/IOSH Diploma or equivalent is highly desirable.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years post‑graduate experience in a Health & Safety role, preferably within logistics, automotive, or heavy industry.
  • Standards: Foundational knowledge of ISO management systems (9001, 14001, 45001).
  • Skills: Strong communication skills with the ability to influence staff at all levels. Proficient in data management and report writing.
  • License: A full, clean driving licence is essential for travel between NVD sites.
