We have an exciting opportunity for nurses or midwives to work in our Manchester and Bolton centres. This role includes hybrid working providing telephone and face-to-face consultations within our Remote Services team, up to 38 hours per week (full time or part time available). Shifts include 9.5 hours per day (8am – 6pm) and late shift (10am – 8pm). There will also be an expectation to work some weekends.
We are looking for nurses/midwives who can deliver safe and effective care for patients seeking consultations for unplanned pregnancy, surgical and medical abortions, contraception and sexual health services for women. You will play an integral role within our multidisciplinary team delivering a confidential abortion service. You will need to be motivated, enthusiastic, caring and empathetic. Pro-choice is a must.
Main duties:
- To deliver safe and effective care of patients from admission to discharge in accordance with Healthcare Commission Standards, NMC Guidelines for Professional Practice and company policies and procedures.
- Ensure the patients are aware of their options.
- Undertaking consultations including the discussion and confirmation of treatment options.
- Discuss contraceptive options and provide/fit contraception in accordance with guidelines and NUPAS policies.
- Appropriately consenting patients for treatment/procedures.
- Provide and inform patients on STI screening.
- Identify safeguarding concerns.
- Checking details on patient notes and alerting Doctor/surgeon/anaesthetist to any significant conditions.
- Ensuring patients are informed about aftercare prior to discharge.
- Providing confidential telephone advice for patients with post-operative problems following discharge.
- Completion of contemporaneous patient records, consent and registers.

Responsibilities:
- To provide clear understanding and implementation of informed choice to patients.
- To offer excellent skills in patient assessment with a clear understanding of treatment options and informed choice.
- Skilled in clinical observation and assessment, enabling identification of normal baseline observations and the deteriorating patient.
- Interpret and undertake point of care testing including pregnancy testing either face to face or via telephone.
- Knowledge base to facilitate discussion around contraceptive options.
- Safe administration of medication in line with policy.
- Obtain informed consent before treatment or procedures.
- Knowledge of STI screening and risk factor assessment.
- Record keeping in line with policy.
- Monitor observations and provide safe care based on the patient’s condition.
- Assess, monitor and advise patients at every stage of care to ensure high quality safe care.

- Implement care for patients in accordance with appropriate care pathways.
- Deliver safe abortion, contraception, and sexual health advice and care in clinical or remote settings.
- Provide care via telephone consultations and clinical assessments.
- Uphold patient dignity and respect.
- Complete documentation accurately.
- Engage with patient feedback to improve services.
- Provide specialist holistic care supplying contraception and medicines in line with policies.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge to support care delivery in a specialist area.
- Provide assessment for sexually transmitted infections and advise patients.
- Medication management in line with policy.
Professional Development:
- Engage in the delivery of training and education.
- Provide induction, training and support to new staff.
- Manage own workload in line with NUPAS values.
- Engage in clinical and safeguarding supervision.
- Ensure practice complies with professional standards; report concerns via NUPAS processes.
- Escalate concerns and complaints to the relevant manager.
- Engage with learning responses to clinical incidents.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Essential: Current NMC registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife; pro-choice.
- Essential: Evidence of skills and experience to fulfil elements of the Job Description.
- Desirable: Professional Nurse or Midwifery advocate; up-to-date knowledge of sexual health services.
