Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for nurses or midwives to work with our Birmingham centre as part of our Remote Services team, delivering hybrid telephone and face‑to‑face consultations.
Fixed‑term 12‑month contract, up to 38 hours per week, with occasional weekend and late shifts.
Work schedule: 9.5 hours per day (8:00‑18:00) or a late shift (10:00‑20:00). Expect to work 2 weekend days and up to 2 late shifts per month.
Working Pattern & Compensation
Salary: £20.66 per hour (includes 2 weekend & 2 late shifts per month).
Contract: Fixed‑term, 12 months.

Job Description
As a Nurse or Midwife (or newly qualified) you will provide safe, effective, evidence‑based, patient‑centred abortion care across our remote service.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver advanced remote clinical support to patients through telephone and face‑to‑face consultations.
- Facilitate patient involvement in decision‑making regarding all aspects of abortion care.
- Advise and educate patients on the legalities of abortion in line with the Abortion Act 1967.
- Conduct comprehensive remote consultations, including medical and social history, eligibility assessment, and risk management.
- Provide family‑planning and sexual health advice, including counselling and screening referrals.
- Counsel and consent patients for early medical abortion treatments.
- Perform final checks for the “pills‑by‑post” service, ensuring safe dispatch.
- Assess risk, recognise patient deterioration and initiate timely escalation, referral or emergency intervention.
- Maintain accurate, contemporaneous EMR, consent and registers in line with professional, legal and NUPAS standards.
- Provide post‑discharge telephone advice for post‑operative problems.
- Support team members, providing guidance, informal supervision and training as required.
- Contribute to clinical quality improvement, audit and governance.
Qualifications & Experience
- Current NMC registration as a Registered Nurse (Sub‑part 1) or Registered Midwife.
- Pro‑choice approach to reproductive and sexual healthcare.
- Experience in abortion, sexual health or gynaecological services preferred.
- Strong communication, safeguarding and risk‑management skills.
Essential Person Specification
- Ability to identify and respond to safeguarding concerns; support staff and patients.
- Evidence of experience delivering patient‑centred care in a clinical setting.
- Commitment to data protection, confidentiality and GDPR compliance.
Desirable Person Specification
- Professional advocacy experience.
- Knowledge of sexual health or gynaecological service.
- Engagement in continuing professional development (CPD).
