An excellent opportunity is available for an enthusiastic, flexible and motivated podiatrist to join our committed and progressive Podiatry team.
You will have post‑graduate experience and training in high risk and Diabetes related conditions of the lower limb. You will work within a team and be expected to work autonomously, acting as a resource of expertise. Experience in advanced wound care therapies such as negative pressure wound therapy, maggot debridement therapy and/or ultrasonic debridement is beneficial, although full training will be given. Excellent time management, communication and organisational skills are essential.
Your role will provide specialist input into multidisciplinary case conferences with specialist teams such as Orthopaedic, Vascular and Endocrine Medicine. You will be able to demonstrate empathy, resilience, a methodical approach and an aptitude for problem solving using your own initiative. There is also opportunity to be involved in nail surgery, biomechanics (including shockwave therapy) and general care/prevention clinics as well as mentoring students.
Part of the role involves education of other health care professionals in presenting and providing practical workshops on high‑risk conditions of the foot. You will be expected to take an active part in Professional Development and Clinical Supervision, developing yourself, along with others in the team, including students and should be prepared to be given responsibility within clinics. The role is based within National University Hospital which is in the Western Cluster of Singapore.
The Challenges
- To autonomously assess, diagnose and manage patients with a diverse range of medical and podiatric conditions, using appropriate diagnostic techniques, skills and tools.
- To be able to recognise acute high‑risk foot presentations and to be able to administer appropriate treatment and onward referrals.
- To make appropriate recommendations for some diagnostic tests, such as bloods and x‑rays, and to interpret and act accordingly on data provided therein.
- Practice within area of professional and clinical competence and seek support from supervisor/other healthcare professionals when appropriate.
- To comply with department policies in clinical governance, health and safety and infection control.
- To manage or assist in the management of a clinical area including schedule capacity, ensuring that the service is utilising clinical capacity to the full.
- To collaborate with other healthcare professionals and participate in case conferences.
- To participate in clinical research.
- To review and update clinical protocols and standard operating procedures.
- To propose and participate in service improvements or quality improvement projects.
- Contribute to or lead departmental in‑service training programmes and hospital educational talks.
- Actively engage in continued professional development to podiatry knowledge and skills.
- To supervise junior colleagues and line manage staff in specified workgroup.
