We are lookingfor a Assistant Communications Officer to join the National Theatre's Communications team.

The Assistant Communications Officer plays a pivotal role in supporting the Communications team to execute creative media campaigns, as well as administrative and operational activities, that help deliver the National Theatre’s communications strategy. This is a hands‑on role requiring a proactive, can‑do approach. Working closely with the Communications Manager, Corporate and Campaigns, you will support integrated press and communications campaigns across key priorities, especially around our Learning programmes, while also underpinning the administrative needs of the wider Communications team. This role will also work closely with the Show Publicity team to support campaigns across our three stages and on tour. This will include the preparation and distribution of press and internal materials, facilitating interview logistics, handling incoming enquiries and requests, maintaining records and documents, processing and archive management of production and publicity images, delivering business processes, monitoring media coverage, supporting events, and undertaking research.

The successful candidates will have the following:

  • Experience in PR, media or internal communications.
  • Demonstrable planning, administrative and organisational skills including the ability to manage a busy workload, multiple priorities, deadlines and fast‑changing demands
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail, combined with the ability to respond to daily demands effectively and efficiently
  • Collaborative team player who thrives in a busy environment.

If that sounds like you, then we would love to hear from you!

We want to understand each candidates skills, experience, and perspectives, so we encourage you to complete your application using your own words. While generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be a useful tool for exploring ideas or structuring responses, applications that rely heavily on AI-generated content can appear generic and make it difficult for us to assess your individual experience.

If you choose to use AI during the application process, please use it only as a tool to help draft and structure your ideas, check your spelling and grammar, and guide your writing, while ensuring the personal experiences are entirely your own words. Responses that do not demonstrate your own voice may affect how your application is assessed and could result in it notbeing progressed.

Working with us will give you..

  • Complimentary staff tickets for shows and guided tours, subject to availability and policy
  • 25 days annual leave increasing up to 32 with length of service (plus bank holidays)
  • Development Programmes via e-learning platform, and specialist in‑person training relating to role
