The award-winning National Space Centre is a unique visitor attraction and education facility. We are looking to recruit talented individuals to join our team in providing the best customer service in the industry.
An experienced Kitchen Assistant is required to join our busy catering team to work within the kitchen and preparation area. Commitment and flexibility are essential.
Part-Time: 7.5 hours per week, Sundays. Normal working hours are 09:00 until 17:00, although some flexibility of times may be required. Plus additional evenings and shifts during peak periods.
Please note that this role is permanent (subject to successful completion of probationary period) and not suitable for temporary or holiday only working. Working with Children β A Disclosure is required for this role.
Reporting to: Head Chef
Rate of pay is Β£13.24 per hour.

Key Responsibilities
- To carry out the washing of pots, pans and crockery as required by the busy catering facilities.
- To assist the team of Chefs in food preparation duties.
- Checking in and putting away deliveries adopting methods of stock rotation.
- The general cleaning of all kitchen areas in accordance with designated cleaning schedules to the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness at all times.
- The deep cleaning of kitchen equipment as required.
- Assist in the main kitchen tasks, including preparation of food, presentation and food service.
- Ensuring that all Health and Safety regulations are adhered to, and that the health and safety of the visitor and all other employees is of paramount importance.
- Assist in front of house areas as required.
- Maintaining a high standard of personal presentation at all times by adhering to the uniform standard guidelines issued.
- Undertaking training and development as part of a Personal Development programme.
- Undertaking any other tasks relevant to the post as required by Line Manager.

Knowledge/Skills/Qualifications
- Experience of working in a professional catering environment is desirable.
- Experience of working face-to-face with members of the public is desirable.
- Experience of working within a customer-focussed retail and/or catering environment and/or using tills is desirable.
- Experience of food hygiene standards is desirable.
- Good interpersonal communication skills.
- Numerate and literate.
- Knife skills for catering are desirable.
- Food Hygiene Certificate β desirable.
