Overview

Our client is looking for an Automotive Learning Coach with strong engineering understanding of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and trailers to support a cohort of approximately 40 apprentices. The role is based primarily on-site in Winsford, with elements of hybrid working. The successful Automotive Learning Coach will deliver high-quality learning, coaching, and development support to apprentices undertaking heavy vehicle manufacturing, maintenance, and broader engineering competencies, including trailer systems. Prior experience in education/teaching is required; assessor and teaching qualifications are ideal but not essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver coaching, mentoring, and on-site support to apprentices in heavy vehicle and trailer engineering.
  • Support learners working towards qualifications aligned to Bus and Coach Engineering Technician and Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician standards (Skills England).
  • Provide structured learning guidance in both practical workshop and theoretical environments.
  • Monitor learner progress, set development plans, and support achievement of apprenticeship milestones.
  • Work closely with employers, assessors, and internal teams to ensure training quality and compliance.
  • Maintain accurate learner records, tracking progress and performance.
  • Support learners with technical understanding of vehicle systems, diagnostics, repair, and maintenance.
  • Promote safe working practices and industry compliance standards.

Candidate Requirements

  • Strong technical background in heavy vehicle (HGV) and/or trailer engineering.
  • Good understanding of automotive manufacturing, servicing, and maintenance principles.
  • Experience working with apprentices or learners in a training, coaching, or mentoring capacity.
  • Teaching or education experience required (assessor and teaching qualifications desirable but not essential).
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to learners at different stages.
  • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Full UK driving licence preferred.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Assessor qualification (e.g. CAVA, TAQA or equivalent).
  • Teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, Cert Ed, or equivalent).
  • Industry-recognised automotive/heavy vehicle qualifications.
