The Manufacturing Metrology Group at NPL has a mission to facilitate confidence in measurement data in manufacturing products and processes. We are now looking for a Principal Scientist to provide scientific leadership to the group, helping our scientists achieve maximum impact on the manufacturing industry. This role involves evolving the group's strategy to deliver impactful, high-quality research and commercial services. You will join the group at an exciting time. While the strategic direction is clear, there is a need to refine it further and establish more detailed focus areas. You will be instrumental in shaping our future.

About the Role

The Manufacturing Metrology Group at NPL aims to facilitate confidence in measurement data in manufacturing products and processes. We are seeking a Principal Scientist to provide scientific leadership, helping our team achieve maximum impact in the manufacturing industry. The role involves refining our strategy for impactful, high-quality research and services. You will join at an exciting time, with the opportunity to shape the future direction of the group.

About You

We are looking for a scientist with at least 5 years of experience in one of our key technologies (CMM, Non-contact measurement, image analysis/XCT, or Industry 4.0). You should have an interest in and be open to learning about other areas, with the ability to work comfortably with a multidisciplinary team. This role requires a relevant academic qualification at least at Degree level, ideally a Master’s or PhD in Engineering or Science. Experience in working with the manufacturing industry, including scoping and delivering projects in collaboration with industrial companies, is essential, along with the ability to discuss the impact of your work.
