About the Role

Put simply, we set the standards by which everything is measured. In doing so, the National Physical Laboratory is helping to combat issues on a global scale such as climate change, curing diseases and the development of cutting-edge communications technology. As our Service Transition Manager, you’ll help co-ordinate and facilitate the changes to our business processes and systems that will allow us to operate at optimum efficiency. A member of the leadership team, responsible for the management and deployment of web applications to deliver the digital product roadmaps. Pioneering DevOps technology and leading an agile development team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to ensure NPL’s mission, strategy and plans are articulated and understood internally and externally for your areas of the business, that employees and partners are excited by, engaged with and focused on its successful delivery to maximise impact & growth.
  • Manage the performance and potential of your team, building highly motivated, customer focused and performing teams.
  • Ensure compliance with appropriate internal and external governance including quality, health, safety, security and environmental legislation minimising risk to the business and enhancing NPL’s reputation.
  • Support continuous improvement to ensure efficient and effective operational delivery.
  • Build and maintain customer and stakeholder relationships that will support NPL’s ability to deliver its mission, its reputation and remain sustainable.
  • Work with leadership colleagues to be one NPL. Ensure you/your team are working effectively together with relevant parts of the organisation.
  • Be an agent of change through visible ownership, clear and consistent communication and a focus on benefits realisation.
  • Model and promote NPL’s values. Work individually and collectively to embed the values and increase their manifestation in behaviours within your team.

About You

  • Be a technical lead in the current technology stack (Azure DevOps, GitLab & Azure), automate testing, releases and infrastructure through source control and CI/CD.
  • Ensure software quality by following test processes, change management and cyber security processes.
  • Work closely with Digital Products & ITS teams to ensure Azure and data resources are governed consistently and aligned with the digital modernisation strategy.
  • Have a good understanding of the external DevOps & Power Platform landscapes and keep abreast of emerging technologies and business trends.
  • Technical lead in solution architecture, app development and deployment.
