As a Dimensional Inspector – Flexibles Glenrothes, you will be responsible for ensuring manufactured components meet engineering, customer, and regulatory requirements. The role supports world‑class quality and efficient production flow by carrying out dimensional inspections, first‑off machine inspections, and verification against drawings, tolerances, API specifications, and quality standards. You will manage your own inspection priorities to minimise downtime, support part release, and prevent non‑conforming product from progressing through manufacture. The role requires close collaboration with manufacturing, machining, NDE, and quality colleagues while maintaining inspection independence and objectivity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out dimensional inspection of machined components using standard measurement equipment including bore gauges, micrometers, verniers, and other calibrated tools.
  • Complete first‑off inspections on machines to support rapid setup approval and minimise production downtime.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and specifications, including API requirements.
  • Verify components against customer and internal quality requirements prior to release.
  • Perform product checks including coating thickness verification and hardness testing where required.
  • Accurately record inspection results using computer systems and quality documentation.
  • Plan and manage inspection workload to support production priorities and manufacturing flow.
  • Identify and report quality issues or non‑conformances to the Quality Chargehand or relevant stakeholders.
  • Support investigations into quality issues by accurately documenting inspection findings.
  • Work closely with manufacturing, machining, and NDE teams to manage inspection flow and part release.
  • Attend team briefings and contribute to discussions regarding quality performance and flow constraints.
  • Ensure all inspection activities are conducted in line with Quality Assurance procedures and work instructions.
  • Support continuous improvement activities aimed at reducing rework, scrap, and delays.
  • Provide holiday and absence cover through overtime where required by business needs.
  • Travel as required to support operational requirements.

Qualifications & Skills

Essential

  • Time‑served apprenticeship or relevant experience in manufacturing or quality inspection.
  • Experience carrying out dimensional inspection in a machining environment.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and tolerances.
  • Good understanding of machining processes and dimensional inspection requirements.
  • Competent use of inspection equipment and calibrated measurement tools.
  • Ability to manage own workload and inspection priorities effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to right‑first‑time inspection.
  • Computer literacy including use of inspection records and standard office tools.
  • Knowledge of oil and gas industry requirements.

Desirable

  • CMM experience.
  • Experience working to API or similar industry specifications.

Interpersonal Skills

  • Works effectively as part of a small quality team.
  • Communicates clearly and professionally with manufacturing and quality stakeholders.
