About the Role
As a Banksman/Slinger, you will adopt a customer service-focused approach to support the efficient management of your workspace and the site overall. You will be responsible for safely and effectively directing crane or forklift operators during lifting operations, preparing and \’slinging\’ loads, and ensuring their secure placement. In addition, your role will involve general support across departments, including cleaning, lifting, moving materials, and assisting site teams as needed.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily chock checks and maintain accurate records
- Receive and document incoming materials
- Unbundle, rack, and stow materials appropriately
- Record serial numbers for incoming and outgoing materials
- Select, bundle, and prepare materials as per instructions
- Assist with loading materials onto trucks using cranes or forklifts
- Count assets and provide reports
- Participate in the on-call rota
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the yard area
- Carry out additional tasks as instructed and within competency
Qualifications & Skills
Essential:
- Banksman/Slinger certification
- Able to sling loads and ensure they are secure and ready for lifting
- Capable of carrying out pre-use inspections on equipment to ensure safe lifting
- Familiar with the correct use of different lifting equipment (e.g., slings, shackles, and chains)
- Conversant with the correct hand and radio signals to be used
- Able to assess loads in terms of their weight and centre of gravity
- Aware of all safety precautions to be taken whilst working with cranes
Desirable:
- Familiar with correct packing and stowage of containers, half heights, and securing methods
- Awareness of relevant regulations pertaining to lifting operations (e.g., LOLER and PUWER)
- Understanding of Safe Working Loads (SWLs) and colour coding
