To achieve its goal of being the world’s most innovative oceanographic institution, NOC seeks to realise the benefits of a coordinated and flexible, professional approach to financial and Project Management (PM) across the business. The role of the Project Management Group is to provide a professional service that combines responsibility for the management of strategically important projects across a variety of diverse funding channels with customer‑focused business partnering to support PM practitioners across the business.

The main purpose of this role is to support accountable project owners with the delivery of strategically important projects by providing them with access to professional PM expertise. This may include fixed‑ and moving‑goal projects across the NOC’s diverse marine science, research infrastructure, commercial and corporate infrastructure portfolio. Members of the PM Group are also expected to contribute to NOC’s community of professional practice by maintaining an awareness of current best practice and trends in PM and sharing their knowledge and learning with other PM practitioners. In addition, this role will have a specific focus on supporting staff with the tools and skills required to support moving‑goal projects, particularly those in scientific and technological development, including the application of Agile methodologies.

We are seeking a project management professional who has experience of applying both waterfall and Agile PM methodologies within a variety of projects from differing funding channels to achieve successful project outcomes. Ideally you will have experience and a strong understanding of diverse funding environments. You will be a confident communicator able to work collaboratively with engineers, scientists, corporate staff and senior stakeholders to enable project delivery. You will also be an effective team player, working with fellow project managers to provide a customer‑focused business partnering service for project management. Commitment to continued professional development and the application of best practice PM is required.

Location: This position will be based in Southampton. The centre is well connected by public transport and has ample cycle parking in addition to free onsite car‑parking with over 40 EV charging points. We have a hybrid working approach where for most positions staff can work from home up to 2 days per week.
